Someone has just hit my car !!
Discussion

But the good news is... the damage is not too bad and a witness left the details of the car that hit mine plus their mobile number ( there are still some good people in this world it would seem ! )
Just contacting my insurance now but was wondering what happens to the person that hit my car and did not leave any details... is this classified as leaving the scene of an accident ? Also is it worth contacting the police ?
I am slowly starting to calm down now....... still want to give the
a shoeing though !tricky69 said:

Yes, report them to the police, inform your insurers, then get an accident management company on their case!samdale said:
oh and shouldn't this be in GG?
yeah you might be right..... but was also a comment on general society, the bad side being hitting someones car then driving off... the good side being witnessing a crime and doing the right thingStill would like to know what the criminal who hit my car has in store if anyone knows ?
Very very fortunate to have a witness. What did they say they saw? Did the driver stop as if to acknowledge they'd hit your car, or do they think they were blissfully unaware.
When you reoprt this, the driver should get a visit by the old bill for failing to stop.
Some people... shocking.

Correct - 24hrs to report it to police. You will be asked to attend police station with vehicle - photos may be taken, documents will need to be produced, all details will be submitted into an accident booklet then police will locate driver if they have not reported it within 24hrs, and speak with them.
Was the accident in a public place or on private property? My mums car got a ding at a car boot and some kind sole witnessed it and left their details and those of the offender but because it was in a privately owned field nothing could be done unless the offender reported to their insurance company etc. Really annoying.

ETA Police will also investigate the damage because whose to know it wasn't done on purpose therefore criminal damage.

Put it this way; if you were s
t faced moving your car back and forth on your drive, would you expect the police to drive past without doing anything?-Z- said:

No gates although private road etc!
