Some people REALLY don't get that the show's done for comedic purposes, do they..? "Yes, I've ridden a scooter before and have a basic understanding of what to do.." wouldn't be as funny, would it? Daily Mail idiots.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-11024...

There ARE some amusing comments about the future of the show when it comes to budget cuts within the BBC:

"'Our problem though is that there is no fat to trim off the show in that we waste almost nothing behind the scenes and the old cliché of 'every penny goes on screen' is actually true.

'So in 2009, the budget cut has to affect what you watch and Clarkson has had a brainwave in making this as painless as possible.

'Basically instead of trimming back a little bit on every show - losing a helicopter here or a truck crash there - we'll endeavour to make 13 of our 14 shows as per the usual Jerry Bruckheimer standard and then the last one, when we only have a tenner left, will be utter, utter sh*te.'"

Indeed, it's quite a money spinner so something they will invest in.

Top Gear is the only reason I bother watching TV. Pop Dancing on X Brother doesn't do it for me.

Not Quite ridding on the road in Vietnam though, Empty track not that hard to roll arround on, however I do believe this may be why he was caught on a scooter earlier this year.

I happen to like the show, its not as PC as it could be and thats a good thing.

The show has evolved allot, and last night left me thinking that could be a fun thing to do myself.

The show appeals to my inner child and I'd like it to stay that way, I did like the old show as well but in todays H&S-tastic environment with Big Brother and X Factor I think it fills the spot well.

Button pressers where invented so you can change channel....

Yes its invested from the licence payers fund, however I would not be surprised if its at least self funding if not profit making for the beeb.

And in my opinion compared to some of the "salaries" paid there not that bad.

My 2p, not worth much, actually its freee!!!

I wonder if we can keep this a bit straighter than the James Martin Abuse society thread!

I was about to burst the news story of the century with that one. Why didn't the DM just leave a page out of each paper rather than print what was pretty much a blow-by-blow account of the episode. Isn't there a Diana story they could run? (Oh no, that would be the Express. My mistake)

Top Gear is going down the tube IMO. Can't believe how much Clarkson, May and Hammond and getting paid to "Lark about" as one commenter put it.

Vote with your feet. Well, fingers. I object to X Brother on Ice Come so I don't watch it nor do I complain about it.

I don't dislike it as such and I've been watching it in its new format since day one, BUT it has got to be said that recently its not been quite as good as you might expect.

My issue with Top Gear is more that a lot of the populace seems to take it as a factual show, despite the fact the presenters often joking that it's not.
As a factual show, it's truly terrible; as a bit of light entrainment it's not too bad.
