We've had four cars damaged in non-faults in as many months.

We've had three cars damaged by potholes this year. Some roads near us are like a slalom course.

Don't expect Grandma to give way, bh comin' through.

Merge in turn? Everyone thinks it's THEIR turn.

Motorway lane change Manoeuvre - Signal - Mirror or more likely just Manoeuvre.

Multi-lane highway - all the lanes are going the same way, pick one. It doesn't matter which.

Courtesy on the road has all but vanished and everyone is angry.

Where can I buy a six shooter?

Yup, I’ve noticed this too. Just a total lack of roadcraft from most.

Anyone in a modern car that drives below 70 on a clear motorway isn’t helping. Particularly when they meander into the middle lane.

Does driving just reflect and amplify the general attitude of people in the uk?

We hired a car to explore in Gran Canaria earlier in the year - miles of lovely roads built in generally mountainous terrain. It was quite eye opening to return to pot-holed and congested England.

Despite the reputation "enjoyed" by Italian motoring, I find the roads and driving there far, far better than here. And yes, as you say, Sardinia roads are generally excellent compared to here and Sardinia is a poor island.

Maybe it's my age but I just assume they are all idiots and I'm driving through them as carefully as I can. Weekends are usually the worst

The roads get built, then comparatively lightly used and dont have the weather we do here, so they last a lot longer.

Its because since the early 00's the only bad driving is speeding....

Go 35 in a 30? You are criminal scum....

Cut and chop lanes that risks other road users? Fine....

Park in a stupid place so no one can see at a junction? Yeah man thats fine...

Drive 60 down the middle of a clear motorway? No speeding, all good.

The roads have too many camera's and not enough traffic police...

Nothing new, just a 'rinse and repeat' of all the motoring mayhem threads.

Then who is the fool?

I did a roadtrip around Spain this last Winter and must have covered about 1800 miles. I encountered 2 sets of roadworks, one set of which wasn't really even roadworks just a short section where you were coned to use the other side of the road to almost no effect on moving speed.

I arrived back into Portsmouth and counted 12 sets of roadworks between the South coast and Leeds.

Amazes me how our road surfaces seem to deteriorate at the speed at which they do and how we can have so many roads in pieces rather than just fixing one section and doing it so it lasts longer than 6 months. The M27 was another one whereby just as they finished the "smart" motorway years of roadworks, they have now dug it up again.

Same applies to the fast rail in Spain v the UK and the speed at which that was installed. I can get from Alicante to Madrid in just over 2 hours at 300kph, a glass of wine in front of me barely moving let alone spilling. Yes there is a lot more empty land to plan these projects but even still it makes UK transport look hopeless.

People complaining about British drivers need to spend some time in the US or Australia. You'll come back praising the skill and discipline of British drivers.

I sometimes think the standard of driving around wales is bad but then I go to London on the m4, as soon as you get to reading, the standards drop, the roads are much busier and people tailgate like crazy, even if someone’s doing 80+ there’s someone hanging on their bumper

Same when I go towards birmigham, fine till Whittington and then suddenly people seem to have no regard for their own life and tailgate and drive like morons

I just stick to the inside lane.

I am on the M25/M1 most days of the week and not a journey goes by without seeing a (very) near miss.

Most of the time people pulling into lanes when the gap is way too small. Middle / 3rd of 4 lane, just a stream of cars too close together doing anything from 52 -> 65.

Lane 1(&2) often completely empty.

Trucks seem to be just as guilty as everyone else. Often 3 of 4 lanes (particularly uphill) have trucks doing 55,56,57mph.

Over the past 3 years or so I've done a lot of driving in Birmingham. It's peak wild west but I honestly think it's made me a much better driver.
The plus side is nobody hangs around, and things flow pretty well.

i was taught this too (30 years ago) - assume everyone is an idiot.

Sadly these days its not idiocy or ineptness but malice - the fk you i'm coming through attitude.
