Greetings,

Only answer if you know please as everyone has a different guess!

Is it based on age and fuel type from the V5?

Or is it based on on the fuel type and emissions data on the V5?

Emissions data only (not fuel type(

Or some other criteria?

I'm wondering what will happen to my ULEZ compliant petrol car when I fir a diesel engine, DVLA don't change anything apart from CC and Fuel Type on the V5.

Curiously, Greg

Link off number plate to the DVLA database to determine ULEZ status.

However ff you have not told the DVLA they would not know

However would be an insurance and tax fail as an undeclared mod if later found out.

Agreed!

"How does Ulez system decide if a vehicle passing camera is" what?

Blue?
Being driven well?
Regularly maintained?

The OP doesn't even finish the question in the first post!

3/10. Must try harder.

A related question for the OP is how he is going to get an emissions pass at MOT time after the engine swap?

With the cost of sourcing and fitting the engine, ECU and fuel system (let's not be under the impression you can literally just drop one in place of the other) i would suggest it's significantly cheaper to either sell your car and replace it, or just pay the ULEZ.

I'm sorry, I was struggling to describe my question, if I'm allowed to edit it and you can suggest something more concise I will happily change it

Thanks for the low score lol.

I'm not sure what bit of the question I didn't finish though, what else do you think I should also ask?

To clarify I'm not asking about the mechanics of the cameras, I'm asking about the mechanics of the database.

What info from the database though? For example my 2010 car has no Euro status on the V5 but comes up 'compliant' on the ulez checker.

You're right, it's not a cost or conversion feasibility question though

Chill, Winston!

"How does the ulez camera system identify compliant/exempt vehicles?"

Or some such.

I see. Well if you're hoping to understand how the ULEZ system functions, it's nothing more complicated than reading the numberplate. The whole "what engine does it have, and what if I put a diesel in and I don't tell anyone" is addressed by my comments on feasibility. It knows because of your vehicle vehicle been registered with all the information they need to make that decision about qualifying or not. Any deviation from the registered information, would be picked up fairly quickly, you wouldn't get more than 11 months i suspect without being caught. Also yes it might just say "diesel" if you declared the change, but having no CO² to reference means they just don't let get out of paying ULEZ, until you can prove you qualify. That's a win for them tbh.

Thank you. It has to be more complicated than reading the numberplate though.

For example, one of my cars is Euro 5 but in the V5 is blank against the Euro standard. It does have a co2 g/km figure which is compliant however my understanding is that this figure comes from type approval and DVLA say it can never be changed. Meaning in event of engine/fuel type change the co2 figure would remain as per 1st registration.

Or have I got that wrong?

I can't say for certain as I've never done it, but I would suspect the CO² field is filled automatically by entering the engine. Replacement of the previous engine time would I think wipe all the other fields associated with it. The V5c might look like a form when printed, but in table format it's more like an excel spreadsheet.
