Mk2 Golf owner; it's not a GTI/G60/Rallye... but it's a nice 1989 1.8 GL in the best colour. I have a garage, but (maybe stupidly) I kitted it out as a decent workshop when I had my Gixer. The bike is gone, and now I still have a nice workshop - but not big enough to fit the Golf. So I've hired a container for storage. It's 20ft x 8ft, on a secure site, so the Golf is in there, plus my summer wheels for the fleet. It's pricey though.
The conundrum is as follows... farmer neighbour now has space. It is a stable. Covered, but not watertight as such. The car will need a cover, but the space is big (one car plus wheels etc). Mice etc could be an issue. It's 40% of the price of the container. What to do...

Is there power at the stable?

If the stable if large but only approximately weatherproof, could you fit a cheap fabric car tent to keep the drips off?

Plenty of air movement is otherwise positive; better than a sealed container!

Will the farmer let you put a container on his land for the same fee as renting barn space? How much are containers to buy outright?

Surely that’s better than having it in a damp unventilated or lined container?

Hence my currently unanswered question about power.
That would be the best solution.

A container would be a bad idea imho.

Mice - you wouldn't believe the damage they can cause, often unseen damage, until .........
Wiring, hoses, breather lines, basically anything plastic, then if they can get into the inside, and they will, destroy the interior to make nests. And more mice.

Yup. Had to scrap a car that I stored in a mate's barn many years ago. It was only over one autumn/winter but the mice got in and totally destroyed the wiring, as well as chewing up the interior. I was almost as gutted as the car;)

Something like a Carcoon might keep the little beggars out, but I have never used one so can't comment on their rodent proof-ness.

No power at the stable. I have a cover, and it's 2 mins from my house, so I can take the battery out / keep it charged at home.

Ok, that hoses the idea of an Airchamber/Carcoon solution, which would have been ideal.

I wonder how long a deep cycle battery could power a carcoon for? especially one with a frame to support the weight.
I have mice in a remote garage that will get inside within hours without the chamber. 12years with no ingress so far.

Someone with a better understanding of electrics than me needed for that. I know that the fans are a small load.

The framed ones will stay up without the fans on. So thats a possibility for just mice protection.
But I wonder what type of an environment would exist within the chamber without the fans running.

If the chamber fans can run on 12v DC then you could run them on a couple of big leisure batteries swapped every few days, perhaps also backed up with a solar panel?
