Thanks, but this is for examiners. I'm not sure where examiners even come from. Did they have to be ADIs or what?

Also, I have close family who are race instructors (with ADI qualifications) so I could annoy them with the latter two...

Strangely, it appears the DVSA can't actually spell 'licence'.

I was an examiner for 5-6 years and left in 2022 but can answer your questions!

1. How do you test deaf people?
If it was declared in advance then you'd usually get 2 test slots to do it so not to rush. Before you start the drive, you'd agree with the candidate on how to do the directions. Alot of the times the instructor will let you know how the candidate wanted the instructions, but usually it was either a set of cards with instructions (arrows etc) on them, or you would use hand directions. Making sure your looking at them, for roundabout would often 'draw' a circle and stick up number of fingers for which exit, or stick your hand to the right/left to signal next road on the right/left.

2. How/why did you become a driving examiner?
I was bored of my previous job, not many opportunities, saw it advertised and throught that sounds different and applied!

3. What are the most unusual vehicles you have done tests in?
I personally didnt have many different cars. Depending on test centres and the local demographic you could get range rovers, did see a porsche 911 one time. One person turned up in a pretty much brand new 5 series. As an examiner you do also do other catorgory tests, such Tractor tests, tracked vehicles. They were quite nice to do, you'd get the morning or afternoon, go to some little village or farm and do the test

4. What are the most dangerous, fraudulent or silly things that have happened to you on a test?
Nearly having a head of with a HGV, causing a HGV to skid across a d/c, driving into the wall at the end of the test (when on for a pass), starting the test in reverse and reversing into a bush, following over learners doing the wrong thing and all failing on the same thing, people turning up at the wrong test centre, turning up without cars (rare tho).
I never had any attempts to bribe, didnt knowingly have any fraudulent attempts to take a test.
Had a few parents/partners turn and have massive rows with us as we failed the kids/partner and didnt beleive what we said. The police had to be called a few times
