Hopefully I'm missing something obvious here confused

My current car is 2010 and looking around for a new car, I wanted something newer... even if it's only by 6 months! I found this car on Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/13967239...

Reg beginning V111 - So that's an 11 plate then, i.e. 2011

Then I noticed it says 2009 at the top. So I entered the details into the gov MOT checker, and alas it comes back as registered in 2009 - So how can it be wearing a 2011 plate!?

Really?

Give us the whole plate but it clearly looks like a 1999 plate, probably bought for £250 for whatever reason.

V111 is a Sept 1999 to Mar 2000 plate...

Click on the link and there's the whole plate... how is V111 not 2011? I don't understand how you can get away with that, clearly fooled me into thinking it was newer than it is boxedin

There was never an '11' plate. It was 60 or 61. Christ, it's not a hard concept to understand.

erm... easily fooled maybe!

Are you quite young and don't remember the prefix plates pre the current style maybe?

Anyway why do you want a "newer" car "even if it is only 6 months newer"... 2 things, 1) when buying a nigh on 15 year old car buy on condition not how many months old it is and 2) a car that was registered 6 months newer than your current one, could infact be c1+ years older than your car on manufacturing date so it's a flawed logic.

Are you sure?

Obviously, as previously stated, V111 is not a 2011 plate.

Oh right, so it's gone back to the older version of numbering plates. God, it's been that long I totally forgot about that. Need to get back into bed and start again today me thinks, it's been of those days (already)

The number plate format since 2001 has been, two letters, two numbers (representing the year) and three letters at the end.

Prior to that, number plates were issued once per year and the year was determined by the letter at the beginning. Nothing to do with the numbers that followed. (that I'm aware of).

So an X reg would be 2000, so you could have X111 PPP. That's not the Same as XX11 ABC which would be 2011.

I'm sure there's some info I'm not quite right on but that's the gist of it.

V111 BXN. One letter, three numbers, three letters. It's a "V" reg numberplate not an "11" plate.

There are 11-plates which came out March 2011. 61 was from Sept 2011. Seems like it is a hard concept to understand afterall.

You're definitely wrong there... plently of 11 plates around. 61 was September registered, whereas 11 was March registered. Christ wink

Yeah, totally get this.

What I thought happened was this guy got a private reg for the car, and I was surprised you'd be allowed to have anything with 11 on it, being a 2009 car. However, I guess the way round that is to indeed go 2000 rather than 2011 - Maybe a bit sneaky, if that was the intension? But why the hell not if you're allowed to.

It's a cherished number on the car from a V prefix plate.
