Porsche tees up new 911 GT3 ahead of reveal

We're not expecting the 992.2 to change drastically - but you can bet your house on it being provably quicker...

Porsche will show a pair of new GT 911s this Friday afternoon. You probably don’t need us to tell you it’s a GT3, given the shrouded silhouette seen here and the fact that there hasn’t been a 992 GT2 yet. Porsche is promising the new GT3 - the eighth in an illustrious quarter-century of the badge - will be ‘even more emotional, offer customers even more individuality and feature innovative details’.

It also says that new Porsche motorsport-developed 911 will be presented in two variants, so it seems safe to assume that both the regular GT3 and the despoilered Touring will continue alongside each other. Beyond that, very little has been confirmed: Andreas Preuninger will be at the reveal, as will Walter Röhrl and Jörg Bergmeister. There’ll probably be a lap time to talk about.

Otherwise nothing has been made official apart from a 17:30 reveal time. But we can speculate, of course, with plenty in the back catalogue to go off. There won’t be the same excitement of the manual’s return or the Touring’s introduction, as there was for the 991 update, because they both already exist.

That being said, the ‘.2’ cars always tend to bring something just a little bit extra; it’s usually a little extra power (though that seems unlikely now given the constraints around 9,000rpm, atmospheric engines), some additional chassis technology, options that maybe weren’t available before and improving ever-so-slightly a road racer that already felt pretty damn good. For 996, 997 and 991, it’s the ‘.2s; that have been remembered most fondly - we’ll get some idea on Friday whether that’s likely to be the same for 992.

Would love them to make a manual Touring with the option of rear seats!

Very excited!
I wonder if it’ll have the same hybrid tech as the new 992 GTS.

They should just price these at £200k, seeing as that's the real price once flipped by the first owner.

Yes please, for me I have always preferred the .2’s over the .1’s as Porsche have had a target to better - can’t wait for this one!

Is there any point reporting on a car, that is frankly, not for sale/pre-sold out? Or will the car community continue to blow smoke up Porsches arse?

Past performance is not a guarantee of future returns...

I'm on the fence on this one as it will be difficult to better the 992.1 in meaningful ways, but Porsche are the masters of it.

What I'm not enamoured with is the move to the full digital dash. The 992.1 Dash with the central analogue tacho is pretty much perfection. Feel that's this "advance" is instead a bit of a retrograde step, but lets see on Friday.

RPM offer a proper TUV approved rear seat conversion.

Looking forward to seeing it.
I have no doubts it will be utterly amazing.
I can't afford one, and even if I could, wouldn't stand a chance of getting a build slot anyway, but I can dream.

The market isn't what it once was, very little is fetching "overs" these days or they have been dramatically reduced for even the really hard to get stuff, you can walk in and buy a brand new 718 Spider RS for list price as an example as there are 4 for sale at the dealers with no need to beg or buy things you don't want.

High list prices and high interest rates have dampened demand.

Probably didn't need a teaser photo, we all know exactly what it's going to look like. Probably a good steer mind.

I wonder if an analog tachometer is going to be the unique feature for the GT3, like when they did the custom PDK shifter for the 992.1.

Yes, because this is a website about performance cars, and this is a new performance car.

This, a genuine factory touring with four seats would be just the thing. It's not like they need to do anything extra the aftermarket hasn't already done-simply homologate it.
