UK price and specs confirmed for VW ID 7 GTX

More than 350 miles for VW's flagship GTX, but more than £60k also

VW has announced that the new ID7 GTX, the 340hp flagship of the ID7 range, will go on sale from August 1st - just in time for the new 74 plate. It will cost from £61,980 as a five-door, or £62,670 as a Tourer.

As a reminder, both hatch and wagon get an 86kWh battery that can charge at up to 200kW and deliver up to 366 miles of range. The addition of a front motor means 4Motion in an ID7 for the first time, and 0-62mph in 5.5 seconds (or 5.4 for the liftback). Standard kit will include 20-inch Skagen wheels, IQ Light Matrix LED lights, Harmon Kardon sound, heated and cooled seats plus subtle GTX styling add ons.

VW says that the GTX ‘adds a performance edge to what is already an incredibly well received and award winning package’. Certainly the ID7 won’t be short of rivals; a BMW i4 eDrive 40 M Sport is from £62,590, a Tesla Model 3 Performance £59,990, and a long range, dual-motor, Performance Packed Polestar 2 from £57,950 (which is currently discounted to £52,950). But those after a performance EV wagon have far fewer options - that’s the ID7 GTX we’ll aim to drive as soon as possible.

Aesthetically looks ok. Yes I know inflation but 60k for a mildly quick family estate. It's a no from me

These will get flushed through the VW staff fleet and start appearing in the used market at circa £30k in a few months - if you really feel you must, get one of those. Or wait - used EV’s are a buyers market.

74 plate starts on 1 September, not 1 August.

I think these could make a good family car, but only if the price starts with a 3 At £60k they wont sell and then VW will say no one wants to buy estates anymore and drop it. A few will filter through as ex demo's or staff cars and once the EV depreciation has brought them to sensible money they might be worth a look.

The GTX seems a bit unnecessary since the base model is already 286bhp, but even that is ~55k. Let the lease companies take the hit..

As an electric Passat these look pretty good. Utterly boring to look at, but not offensive. They haven't fallen for the trap the Koreans have gone down of trying to make their electric range uber futuristic to look at. Also nice to see an electric estate option.

Agreed on the price, another new car that will only make sense on a salary sacrifice scheme or when 2 years old at half the price.

no one is going to buy this, make it a SUV and you might stand a chance of selling a few, the legacy car brands are bang in trouble IMO

No! Looks like every other boring EV, especially the Kia, and Hyundai! What did they do Photoshop several cars and see how undesirable they could make it? Still, it'll be £15k in 3 years so a good 2nd buy for some mug....sorry, some customer.

I'd be interested in an EV estate car, with that sort of range, but I'm certainly not flush with £60K to buy one. I don't particularly want to lease, so I guess I'll wait a while as someone above suggested. Trouble is, what's the battery life like after a few years? Not ~350 miles I'd imagine. I wonder if that'll become a point of interest as the number of used EVs on the market steadily increases. Even a 10 year old ICE car can be expected to perform at close to its new performance, if looked after.

I like the look of the estate (do love an estate) but 62k is steep, as it is for those others listed as well.
I wouldn't worry about range after a few years, some Tesla's have done mega miles and still perform

What a shame that these cars will not be £15K in three years. I suggest nearer £30K if googling similar EVs is anything to go by.

I like the idea of an Estate car, IMO much better than an SuV.

I'm a fan of electric (daily) cars but what a genericly designed, uninspiring and extremely dull heap of ste this is. A new low for VW.

I suspect these will prove to be moderately effective transportation devices.

It's a car, not a work of art.

The measure will be how well sales do over the next 3-5years. It is interesting that the top selling new cars are under £30K and tend to be quite small.

I presume they’re the same sort of price in Germany - wonder what the deal is there, do they have the same sort of salary sacrifice arrangements to induce people to take these vehicles?
