Best/easiest way to sell a plate?
Discussion
Put it on retention (cost £80) then advertise here and on eBay. Be prepared to wait a long time until someone wants that plate.
Dealers may buy it but you will, obviously get less back. Many dealers operate on a commission basis where they will advertise it for you and take a cut of the sale price.
Be careful sharing details of the retention cert as all an unscrupulous person needs to assign the plate onto their vehicle is the certificate ref. number and your postcode.

I used this site when I sold my plate last summer. Decided it was less risky than marketplace type options. You decide the price, they handle the entire process and charge the buyer commission. My plate sold within a couple of weeks. Only downside was they sent me a cheque which I had to take to the bank to pay in.
