Not shouting or having a go but actually telling someone their driving was appalling for their own good?

Few years back driving on an A-road a young lad in an Astra GSI came flying round a left hander, tyres howling and oversteering into my lane to the point I had to put my car fully on to the grass. If anyone had been behind me it would have been serious if not fatal.
I caught up with him the next day in a car park and told him he needed to have a think about his driving because he was going to end up killing someone. Think it went in one ear and out the other though. Has anyone else been so appalled by someone’s driving they’ve bypassed road rage and gone to a calm and frank conversation to urge someone to sort themselves out?

ETA: mods- sorry, realise this should have gone in General Gassing.

Unfortunately constructive criticism requires a level of rapport and trust that isn't easy to obtain when you approach them as a random stranger. At best they'll politely ignore everything you have to say. At worse, you'll trigger them into defending themselves. Violently.

Kids here by a small village in NW Scotland kept crashing their cars in the same place, so I wrote a booklet and left it in the pub, explaining how car dynamics work, and how they can stop trashing their P&J (overseer, understeer - by not braking on corners etc. etc.).

Went from 3 write offs a year to 1. So I consider that a bit of a result.

Yesterday as I turned right off a main road the driver of a car exiting the minor road decided to cut the corner and turn right from the side of the road I was turning into. I wound down my window and asked her if she realised she was on the wrong side of the road. Her reaction a sarcastic, "Gosh..."

At the end of July another woman turning right cutting a corner wrote off our car and put us both in hospital.

Telling most young people their driving isn't acceptable will not be advice they'll take onboard. Telling an aggressive young man that thinks he can drive will not go down well.

Look how many PHers fall out when they post videos of their driving not accepting criticism. Or the dash cam thread there is some seriously worrying opinions from PHers that really can't read situations. They'll still get into heated arguments to defend their views.

I black cab driver recently said to me “that was all a bit Lewis Hamilton back there wasn’t it? Calm it down” in the manner of a wisened old cop. I gave a non-committal head movement.

My youngest and a few of his good friends have all passed their tests in the last 12-18 months. They all have their own car or drive one their parents, one of the lads is a bit of a boy racer, already has 3 points for speeding.

All of the rest of the group he is in, including my lad have told him how bad he is and ALL of them refuse to get in the car with him driving.

He still hasn't changed though and when he moves out of his dad's car in to his own, I can see it only getting worse.

So friends and peers all telling him he's a bad driver and in one ear and out the other....

Would it be possible to get a copy of the booklet? (asking for a friend)

Having a word would be unproductive I feel, I'd like to fill the local boy racers ( carbon bonetted civic type r) fuel tank with sugar as an experiment then see what happens
