I'm seriously starting to worry about the affordability of fuelling petrol cars.

Are our cars going to worth pennies soon? Is it another way of getting us into buying an electric car?

I have said it before, but I am amazed people haven't started to hoard cars such as the VW UP!, cars with £30 annual road tax and can do 60MPG.

Surely fuel is going to be in the £1.70 to £1.80 range in a couple of weeks?

Just wondering if it's time to sell a 2.0T petrol!

Alas, it won't end. Even when we didn't use any petrol during lockdowns it didn't drop that far.

It pushes forward but doesn't drop back.

Yep its all a big conspiracy to make you buy electric cars.

Fuel prices are important because they are such a visible and variable cost of ownership. For some people here, it might be a case of give and take... vehicle residual values (non cash) are also up.

I paid over £1.70 per litre of V-Power this morning. eek

Well that really depends on how many mile you do in it.

One of my cars only does about 20 to the gallon, but considering it only does 2-3k miles a year, the cost of fuel is not a consideration. If it was doing even 5k miles a year it would be and certainly for 10-15k a year I will be sticking to my Diesel Octavia...

I must admit, swapping from a PHEV to a large petrol engine for my daily driver wasn't particularly well timed. It hasn't even turned up yet (delayed even further by the Ukraine crisis) so not only will I now get a bigger first registration tax than expected as it'll be registered after 1st April, I'll also be lucky to get anywhere over 25mpg judging by the demo car I had.

Still, it's better than the sub 20mpg my Aston manages. My short commute is the only reason my fuel use stays fairly reasonable, once I'm doing the roadtrips and weekends away again in the summer, start doing regular trackdays again and the new daily arrives I reckon I'll be getting on for over £500 a month fuel bill. I filled the Aston at the weekend with V power for £169.9, roughly £100 for 250 miles. Not good.

Might have to start walking my fat arse to work!

Nah, if I'm keeping mine going then a 2.0t must seem positively parsimonious hehe

Its getting a bit silly. For the first time ever yesterday, i considered swapping my 330d for a 320d, because it cost me £80 to fill up which is getting silly now.

I hate 4cyl diesels with a passion but if fuel is £1.50 a litre and climbing, what can you do?

I always think of selling until I think that the cost to change would have bought me an awful lot of fuel.... Guess we should just sit tight and ride the storm...

Let's face it, it's a first world problem. Ukrainians have a hell of a lot more to worry about.

Just had a look here https://www.racfoundation.org/data/uk-pump-prices-... And petrol was £1.40 in 2012, is £1.55 really that bad right now? It was £1.20 in 2008. No one really remembers that and how much less you were earning 14 years ago, or how many more miles per gallon you get from your car now. The prices soon dropped back after those peaks so whats to say they wont again.

I wouldn't bother, my Dad swapped from a 320D to a 330D and has found he gets almost the same mpg.

Why? WLTP (yeah I know) says 56mpg for the 320 and 53mpg for the 330. Not worth changing. It will be 80 quid to fill up either the 320 or the 330.

£2/ litre average price in a couple of months if this carries on.

Govt need to cut the tax to give the man in the street a chance. The price of everything is racing up. My wages are the highest they've ever been in my life at the moment but I feel my buying power goes down almost weekly!

I'd go back to an electric car but the way electric prices are climbing its hardly much of a saving over a frugal ICE car!

Don't you get the sense that the World has changed? I get the feeling fuel will be over £2 a litre in the near future.

Nobody can predict the future, and I hope I'm wrong.
