VED renewal has come through and the vehicle is in the wrong tax class so they want to charge £280 rather than £155

I’ve tried calling the DVLA “All of our operators are busy right now, try the web chat”

Tried the web chat which gave a generic answer pointing back to the DVLA website

Any ideas on how to talk to someone? Or are they all furloughed at home?

Cheers!

Stay on hold is pretty much all you can do

I had this for several weeks trying to get my medical revocation reversed.

The trick is to hang up and redial the moment you hear the 'we're sorry' message. It normally takes 40-50 attempts but once you get through the queueing time is usually less than 15 mins.

Cheers. It’s not giving the option to stay on hold at the moment.

Finally on hold! 65 attempted calls followed by about 35 button presses of options to get to a waiting list for a human.

I love the new normal rofl

The phone service from almost every company these days I’d abysmal…‘Due to COVID’.

“Oh, our system is down” etc., - because I’m not sure how to transfer your call to my colleague as she/he’s sitting at home, too.

What a joke.

Considering almost all restrictions are now gone, its inexcusable really. Get them back to work or fire and replace.

Sorry this won’t help anyone struggling to make contact by phone but maybe things are improving a bit generally.
I finally got my new style licence after a three month wait. It was a bit out of the ordinary as it was a postal job.( I had to hand in my old paper licence as I was 70 last year)
Also got the new V5 for my recently acquired classic Elan in the post after only 3 days, probably because I applied online.

0300 790 6802

You’ll still wait about 45 minutes , but it won’t just hang up on you

Not on most mobile plans, though you might need a long charging lead.

My wife had a massive issue with DVLA due to their incompetence, and had letters from the courts demanding she attend, and convicting her of something which was incorrect and due to DVLA’s lack of updating records.

I couldn’t get through for love no money through web chat or call, so in the end out of desperation, I contacted the DVLA digital services manager on Facebook who had the issue smoothed out in an hour. Unconventional but it got results. I still have his details if anyone else is pulling their hair.

The number above is for the Drivers Medical Group. You should not be calling for general queries and I’d hope you’d be given pretty short shrift. It’s important to leave the line clear for medical professionals and those with a medical issue. Can I suggest you please delete it

Sorry but I've had enought of our incompetant civil servents.. We have had covid for over 18months.. There is NO EXCUSE at all for crap service and extended holds..

The head of DVLA needs firing... They are not fit for purpose.. and neither are the passport office, who I've had to try to deal with lately.

INCOMPETANT the lot of them..

Rant over.. no excuse

Sherman, I lost mine about 6 to 8 weeks ago and had to reapply. I’ve been advised I’m still entitled to drive under Section 88, might that apply to you? I haven’t physically got my licence I have to a field acuity test to pass first. Could take months after that.

DVLA have had 500 cases of Covid but they’re struggling with social distancing because they won’t let people work from home (incompetent management right there! Daughter has worked for HMRC for 8 months hasn’t even been into an office yet).

As a Driving Instructor for 15 years ! Even i cannot get through to anyone at the DVSA and they are my Industries governing body !!! Total Government shambles of a department and has been even before covid. Most people wont know that last year between lockdowns we were not allowed access to waiting rooms and toilet facilites at test centres !!

Perhaps escalate to the CEO of DVLA?

Julie.Lennard@dvla.gsi.gov.uk

If you view the full CSV, you will also find the telephone number for her office.

Investigated that already. frown
As mine was revoked section 88 does not apply.

Im going to chase my gp as of monday and then send a recorded letter to the dvla asking whats happening and if they dont respond with in a sensible time frame, I will speak to the ombusman as I have had enough and its starting to affect my life not being able to drive.

Mine was revoked last August. Given the all clear by my consultant to reapply back in Feb. Reapplied on 4th Feb then called them on 18th May after not hearing anything. Told me that they'd received my forms but couldn't tell me when they'd actually do anything with them.

Things only started to move once I combined to my MP. Finally got.my licence back a couple of weeks ago, 25 weeks after I sent the application.

If you haven't done so already, it's well.worth dropping your MP a note.
