I'm looking to remove the side indicator and replace it with LEDs behind the wing mirror glass
.
Would this pass an MOT?

Will that not make a massive blind spot and a mirror you can barely use as theres a flashing light stoping you from being able to see whats behind you.

I'd hope not, looks like a blind spot warning more than an indicator.

I'm trying to find a way to have something sleek like a bullet mirror but with a turn signal included. It's for a classic so I don't want a big modern mirror.

More like this

If it's for a classic, assuming it's pre-1986 (can't recall exact date), it doesn't need a side repeater. However, you'd need to read the Con & Use regns because there are specific measurements and visibilty angles for repeaters.

I might have misunderstood, but what are you trying to achieve as the example shown is only visible from the rear?

They are more like reminder indicators in a BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) than indicators on the wing or exterior of the mirror casing.

Classic isn't quite correct.

I have a 94 Chimaera and want to remove the indicator from the wing. As I understand it the regs as per section 4.4.3 state

"The precise position of lamps is not part of the inspection. You should check visually that they are at about the same height and distance from each side of the vehicle"

All that said I think maybe modifying the existing mirror to include the indicator is a better way to go.

Or just live with the ugly yellow blob.

Why not go for clear lenses with orange bulbs?

Because I hadnt even considered that and I like making my life difficult. I'll give that some thought.

Chimaera ones are Fiesta, can't recall which 'mark' (presumably the early 90s one), but there used to be a few sellers of the clear ones on that well-known online auction site.

One step further, You can get mirror effect bulbs that emit amber light to avoid the orange reflection in the housing.
