Morning,

Bit of a different story than the normal renewal posts I see on here, most people seem to post that they had the renewal through that was really high, so they go onto the website and get a cheaper quote, or call up and get a quote thats alot cheaper.

My insurance is due next month, and I hadnt had my renewal, so I decided to use the comparison sites to get an idea of what i will need to pay, and also decided to get a quote of AXA who I am with, now I paid £311 this year, and the new quote of AXA came back as £720, so needless to say, I decided that Iwasnt gonna be going with them, however, this morning I have receied my renewal, and it comes in at £326, so chances are I am actually going to renew with them.

I cant remember the last time my renewal was higher, it's madness how much some folk pay for insurance.

It seems everytime there is a post on here, its people moaning that the insurance company are trying to rip them off by giving them a sky high renewal, and then wen they ring them or go online it loads cheaper.

Just thought I would provide my experience of it this year.

But I agree that people seem to pay silly amounts of money for insurance, just so they can have that status symbol.

My renewal is generally at least double the previous years premium. Same with pretty much anyone else I know. Of course a quick go on a comparison site and then calling the insurance company with the much cheaper quote tends to bring it down under the previous years premium.

I'd check around on the comparison sites, removing your cache and cookies each time.

I used compare the market for years, but this year they seemed a lot more expensive than, for example, confused.

My insurance renewals always come in higher than the previous year. Adrian Flux are terrible for it. I had my kit car insured with them and the renewal came back one year and it was nearly 3 Times the price. Went from about £150 to over £400. When I rung them up they dropped it to about £200.

I then got a quote elsewhere for circa £130 and rung flux back to tell them to shove it and they offered to beat the competitor and offered exactly the same insurance for £110. I turned them down on their offer and gave them a bit of a dressing down for wasting my time and not valuing their customers etc.

If they'd have just run the same price through i wouldve just started with them.

I usually do this:
1, get my renewal (no effort there of course)
2, use one of the well known comparison sites
3, try a major direct insurer who isn't on comparison sites via their website
4, try a broker on the phone

The prices vary greatly but for the 30 mins effort involved in the above I've saved £100s over the years Vs just renewing, sometimes I've moved others I've called to cancel my renewal and current insurer has matched the best quote or got close enough

My incoming car is an import so the above isn't possible, this is my 2nd import so phoned 3 specialist brokers and again a 25% variance in costs so worth an hour on the phone
