For some reason, Germany seems to be against large groups of cars travelling together. There was a big rally with a lot of fast metal about a month ago that was called off after the police intervened. They were using the de-restricted areas of the Autobahn, but I believe the police claimed they were racing, and so didn't permit it. I think they either called it off or seized the cars, can't remember. Not sure why they are so serious about these things, they generally go fine here in the UK with many charity drives. Same goes for America.

And rightly so.

Not ashamed to say when I was a bit younger I had air ride, stretched tyres etc.
But I didn't take the piss! IE I had no "poke" and only a tiny bit of strech (ex 215/35 on a 8.5" rim) within the manufacturers guidelines for the tyres.

The cars photo'd are clearly illegal and wouldn't even pass a proper MOT here in the UK.

While I do feel sorry for them having 11 cars seized at the same time you can't help but look at the owners for responsibility!
We have driven to the 'Ring several times , in convoy up to 10 cars without issue, we don't drive like cocks and none of our cars have stupidly low suspension or massive stretch.
If we were pulled over I'm sure we would also pass the attitude test which has a lot to do with it!

Stupid they have set up a go-fund-me , ridiculous and I'm not afraid to say typical of the kind of behaviour in the "scene" (IE the "cool" kids) and one of the many reasons I left it to go down the performance route.

What a waste of a nice old S124 E-class...

If it is purely due to the cars being stupidly modified, seized vehicles feels harsh. Maybe they should be given the choice of a mandatory repair/de-bksing followed by a TUV inspection before they are allowed to have their cars back?

If this is a result of them being bell-ends... Well the Germans aren't well known for their love of rule breaking OR their sense of humour.

Was reading about this on FB myself as there's a few groups it's popped up on.

I'm not going to be a b*stard and laugh at their misfortune, it is stupid on their part though to not do their homework or just assume that cars that are just about passable in the UK would be fine elsewhere.

What I do think is a joke is that apparently there's a Just Giving page where they're trying to raise money to trailer their cars home. Erm, no. Suck up it snowflakes, you f*cked up so you sort yourselves out.

I recall Car Mag’s Georg Kacher mentioning being pulled frequently in his native Germany while driving their long term Lancer Evo VI. He used to show the picture on the handbook to prove it was all OEM and not modded

These idiots that mess up their suspension like this and run stupid stretched tyres should have their cars crushed. Utterly ste mods like this make their cars dangerous.

They are all heaps, but probably would have been left alone if they weren't in convoy.

I wouldn't have thought mods on cars registered in other countries would need to be TUV approved, only that they would need to be safe to be driven on German roads, so I'm assuming they've pulled them mainly for the stretched tyres and wheels sticking out? Or driving like tts?

Even having a quiet aftermarket (80db) exhaust or 10mm spacers on your car can be enough to have it seized in Germany, short news video about how draconian they can be on minor modifications:

One reason why people trailer UK road legal cars to the Ring.

They have knowingly modded their cars to be like this. Unless they are morons, then they must be aware that in the UK the cars are more than slightly dodgy, but they've been getting away with it as we don't have cameras that pick up "stanced" cars and as there are no trafpol about, then they haven't been pinged.

Suddenly they find themselves in a country that doesn't stuff about with things like this and they've had the book thrown at them. It's not nice, but I don't have much sympathy at all.

Live by the sword, die by the sword and all that.

Has anyone actually donated? The FB posts really aren't swinging their way, sympathy wise.

What will happen to these cars ?

Seized for ever ?

Pay a fine a get the car back but trailer home ?

Can they really permanently seize these cars ?

Interesting to understand the legality of it all.

Just for the record, I’m quite happy for these cars to be removed from the road in their current state.

Not if it's not a German car. These have been seized for presenting a clear danger rather than minor TUV infringements.
We take a convoy of 6 cars to the ring a few times a year and have been stopped before. Usually they just check nothing is fouling arches and let us on our way.

I would imagine a couple will be abandoned in impound permanently depending on the financial position of their owners, the fine and recovery charge will probably be wiorth more than the Lupo's and yellow vans values.

I don't think they will hold them forever or crush them, just make them either make them road legal or tell them to put them on a flatbed and get out of the country.

The stupid stretched tyre nonsense and so on I can understand, but for example that BMW doesn't look like it's been messed about with?

Probably not, but they pulled the whole convoy to make an example of them all. The tints look pretty dark so they could use that as an excuse i suppose.

Chances are it wouldn't have been tugged if travelling solo.
