London ulez and euro 5a diesel
Discussion
Hi,
I have a Toyota verso 2012 diesel and I now found that it is compliant with euro 5a. This means it would be covered by the new London Ultra low emission zone.
From what I can find in https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-ne... there is not much difference between the euro 5a and the euro 6 standard that would not require payment of the additional charges, just that nox needs to be lower.
What can I do to see if they car meets this standard and if not, is there anything I can do to make sure it does so I can avoid charges?
Thanks,
Paul

Hi,
I had a closer look at this and I cannot see if diesels achieve the higher standard by optimisation of the combustion or recirculation of the exhausts fumes or if there is a catalytic type fitting that helps get rid of NOx.
Am I dreaming or would there be a simpler solution to the ULEZ than buying a new car. My car is in great condition and has very low mileage so it would be a shame to sort of write it off..
Cheers

Short answer is no, you'd have to have the engine/emissions updated to Euro6 and get the car re-certified which is going to cost a lot more than trading in your Euro5 diesel and buying either a Euro6 diesel or a Euro4+ petrol. Some old Euro 5 diesels manage to meet Euro 6 standards and are not subject to ULEZ.
You can check it here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/check-your-vehicl...
Or check if your car's emissions, stated on its V5C, are within the following limits:
Euro 6 emissions standards (diesel)
CO: 0.50g/km
HC + NOx: 0.17g/km
NOx: 0.08g/km
PM: 0.005g/km
PN [#/km]: 6.0x10 ^11/km
