Hi, hope this is the place to put this?

So bought a car and looking at insurance...I am unemployed but I have a part time job. So when it comes to saying what your status is, saying unemployed is approximately £300 more than my job role.

So, is only stating my work title
A, Legal?
B, Technically correct and therefore policy acceptable?

Also, on one insurer, the question is, 'What is your main job?'.
If you start typing unemployed, it offers you that as your status. However, technically, the question doesn't ask you if you are, it only asks what your main job is, so is it technically justifiable to write your job?

Not interested one bit in doing anything wrong before anyone asks...

I don't understand, how can you possibly be unemployed but have a part time job?

Surely either you work part time, or you don't and you're unemployed.

Charltjr, you're allowed to work less than 16 hours and earn upto £125.50 a week.

But that means you are employed.

The ONS definition of "Employed" is one hour paid work within a 14 day period

Yes, that was the definition that came up when some guy had to walk 45 mins to work and be told ‘no work today’. He worked about one hour a week, and the ONS said the definition of employed (for government statistics) is one hour paid work per fortnight.

As Charljtr says, regardless of what benefit trick you're pulling, the job you do is your main employment so that's what you need to put down.

The insurance question set is trying to ascertain what else it is you might do. You could be an office clerk 9-5 every day but, unless they ask you about other employment, they're not going to find out that you're a Stunt Driver at the weekends.

In my early twenties I was an Estate Agent by day and barman a few nights a week. So I needed to declare both. If I'd only worked as a barman those few nights, that's the main job I would have had to declare.

All the companies had insurance with ask if you have a second job. I crew for a hot air balloon company at the weekends. It makes no difference to my premium, but assume some might.

The cheek of it, you used to be an estate agent and you suggest I'm pulling a trick lol
There is no magic here, the government know my exact position, but thanks for the other input, was helpful and I liked the stunt man gag.
