….and for my first post….

Bought a car, which was originally imported and first registered in the UK in 1997.

Though manufactured in 1994, the DVLA registered it on a ‘P’ plate at the time.

Over time, has been used on private plates, and prior to me purchasing the Vehicle, the DVLA returned it to its’ originally registered ‘P’ plate.

Spoke with the DVLA regarding whether there would be any problems with swapping/putting a new ‘P’ plate on a vehicle with an existing ‘P’ plate, and as no issues foreseen, bought a new ‘P’ Plate.

Having failed to assign the new registration via the DVLA website, followed the instructions and sent all the paperwork to the DVLA for them to carry out the registration.

After a month got the registration certificate, but no V5C, and a response stating:
“Unfortunately we are unable to assign the above mark to your vehicle as it would make the vehicle appear younger than it is”

Calling the DVLA, then following an initial response that there would be no problem with swapping an existing ‘P’ plate with a new ‘P’ plate, and having explained that this is exactly what they had rejected, the DVLA agent disappeared for a bit. On returning, I was informed that the DVLA had issued a ‘P’ plate for the car in error (originally and on the re-assignment), and that now they would be returning me a ‘corrected’ V5C document with some ‘M’ registration assigned.

Now, my question, can the DVLA just ‘correct’ the documentation and age the vehicle?
