So to the new topic, should we ask Flemke, is this your McLaren?

Thankfully it hasn't. You can always not read it smile

Hurst, can't quote as the other topic was locked, but in case you weren't sure my last comment was tongue in cheek.

Woo Hoo, fourth post in one of the best threads on PH, apologies if this has been asked before (more than once I'd wager, but i'm only up to page 170 on v4) but has the rising value of the F1 made you see the car in a different light? Do you worry about driving it places more than you did? Also there must come a point where you see ££ or even ($$) in front of your eyes, I spoke to a chap who owned a 356 Carrera at the Silverstone classic, he'd owned his car for over 20 years and said he got telephone calls from people offering to buy his car on a monthly basis, and even though to hear him speak he dearly loved the car he admitted he was tempted by the figures offered these days...

The rising value does not make me see the car in a different light.

I don't worry about driving it anywhere.

Sell it now for $$$$, wait a year or two for the price bubble to burst, then buy it back, or a similar one, for just $$.

With regard to the price increasing, Flemke I'm sure early on you said that insurance was aprox 5% of the cars value at the time, is that still the case?

If so surely the yearly premium is fast approaching a point where it will come close to the fix cost of a serious accident like say Rowans.

Thanks

Can't be, ain't no way anyone spending that much time on the internet has any time left to make the sort of money required to run an F1!

At the risk of being shouted at, should this thread be moved to the McLaren forum now?

I was kind of thinking that - wouldn't harm the discussion and would keep fewer of the people who don't care to see it from being bothered by its content.

Spotted today in the paddock at Laguna Seca under the Virtuoso Performance tent - this is chassis 042 which has been off the radar for me since 2011. Images are courtesy of Supercars.net and are clickable for larger versions.

This car appears to have at least portions of the 'flemke' treatment in regards to suspension, wheel sizes and tires fitted. An educated guess tells me this is not some kind of coincidence.

At the risk of being shouted at perhaps more loudly ( wink ), I would prefer it to remain in GG.

Although the threads' title and the continuity are indeed about "McLaren", I think many of the better parts of these threads have been when the discussion became more general.

Often threads situated in narrow, manufacturer-specific categories will focus on topics such as, "Does anyone know where I can get a replacement fan belt for my 1995 XYZ?"
I do not criticise the participants in such threads, and indeed the day could come when I myself were in need of a fan belt for a 1995 McLaren F1, in which case one might find me here on PH asking for a recommendation.

Nonetheless, the profusion of that sort of narrow, manufacturer-specific thread tends, I think, to discourage many of us from having a curious look inside manufacturer-specific categories on a forum. Often we don't know beforehand what we might find interesting, so we don't seek it out.

If, back in 2004, Pistonheads had had a "McLaren" section, I speculate that Ted still would have included the first "Flemke" thread not in that but here in General Gassing.

The decision is of course up to the moderators, but I think this thread is best placed where it has always been.

I'm not sure - would like to think about that and then reply.

Cheers.

Not that easy when there are only few cars about, especially after one factors in the frictional costs of buying and selling. Then there is the fact that you don't know how a prospective purchase has been treated by the previous owner(s).
