To cut a long story short I am getting new wheels for my car. What are people's opinions on colour, I was going to go for black or gunmetal grey, what do you think would go best with a black car?

Cheers,
Craig

I'd go for the least dark one myself, have never liked black alloys. Also, I'd be inclined to believe that lighter coloured alloys would stand up better to age related marks and deterioration.

Not a fan of black wheels tbh. I like the contrast of silver wheels against a black car.

My choice would be.

1. Silver
2. Gunmetal
3.
4.
5.
99. Black

Black alloys make your tyres look very grey which is not a good look.

Gunmetal grey avoids this by being slightly lighter than the colour of the tyres so looks a lot better.

I think black wheels on a black car is too much. Go for grey.

Grey for me too, I prefer the contrast on a black car. Just about to do my AMG's on a silver car and don't want to go to dark grey.

I watched a Wheeler Dealers episode recently were they had a DB7 and when having the wheels refurbed they were initially painted with a black base coat and then sprayed silver to give a kind of shadow effect. I thought it looked excellent and was a very interesting alternative to black wheels (which I also don't like) well worth trying to catch the show or maybe try to find on Youtube.

Depends.

Antracite/Gunmetal grey if glossy.

Black if matt.

Mainly because of the tyre reason above. Gloss black looks st because it looks darker and shinier than the tyres. Matt black looks better because the tyres are also matt black.

I was never a fan of black wheels, but mine came with them, and have grown on me.

I am in the same position and need help.

I've just got an Audi A5 2.7 TDI S Line V6 in black with standard wheels and I'm trying to choose the colour for the rims to be powder coated. I've chosen to paint the calipers acid green (the Porsche racing colour) and am now stuck as to what the best wheel finish is for a black car and the calipers. Like you I think black matte/gloss would be OTT for a black car, so I'm leaning towards gunmetal alloys...but I can't decide between gloss and matte. If the car is glossy then surely the wheels should be glossy? Does gunmetal look good with black? I would be really gutted if I forked out for the powder coating and then hated the result...so suggestions please welcome smile

Black alloys look st.
Scuffed black alloys look doubly st, when silver metal is visible beneath the black.

Yeh. Not a fan.

Never understood the current trend of coloured wheels. I’d say stick with silver. If you have to colour them then gunmetal would be my preference over black.

That's some thread resurrection....

Suggest you go for a set of these to hide your acid green calipers

Totally agree although I would put Gunmetal much lower.

Yeh. Not a fan.
Also black alloys always seem to be attached to a car that is owned by a certain type of individual. I was at a car dealers before lockdown and when I got there a wannabe gangsta looking man was arguing with the car dealer in a London accent about the part exchange he had been offered for his Black Mercedes Coupe with Black completely scuffed with chunks missing alloys.

Very council.
