I sold a Land Rover 101 to a guy doing safaris in Kenya, someone from Germany came to view a Triumph GT6 and they were both advertised in the UK. A friend sells most of his tractors to Poland these days, but only advertises in the UK.

If you advertise overseas you will get the average-Joe punters, who will presume you know how to move an item overseas. If you advertise in the UK, the overseas buyers looking at the UK market will have some idea how to move the item back to their own country (for the most-part anyway).

MAYBE ABROAD PERSON CRAZY-ASS ANTIPODE. WHY U NOT KNO THIS? "Abroad" is a mysterious place and includes such wonders as Australia, and many other places where RHD cars are popular. I have just sold a Lotus Europa to a bloke in Oz. I can't see anyone in Foreignland wanting to buy a boggo RHD Astra.

OP: there is a new invention going around. Some people call it "The Internet". It might be worth a try.

If it's anything like what happened to my Passat, then yes, he can definitely get more money abroad, even for a RHD car. With my Passat, someone in fkedupistan is proudest gypsy in village!

full electrics.
As opposed to those where you have to do some of the wiring yourself?

Guys from Germany came to collect my brother's Impreza WRX, it was pretty battered ao only got £900 for it (he was expecting less!) they said they will tidy it up and sell it for £3,000 no problem.

Here in Poland we use www.moto.allegro.pl (Put Anglik into the search and choose Samochody Osobowe and that should bring up British cars for sale) For Germany its www.mobile.de

With RHD stuff your target market is pretty limited as I know here in PL you can't register a RHD car,

What about looking at NZ? Cars are more expensive there and the import restrictions are much more lax than Australia where its almost impossible to import anything.

Cyprus may also be a good call, Plenty of British expat forums so perhaps advertise it on there?

To be fair though its not really a specialist car so i can't see why anyone would go through the inconvenience of buying yours when they can almost certainly find the same car with the wheel on the correct side in their home country.

I don't know anything about comparative strictness of import legislation but it's most certainly not impossible to import cars into Australia, or at least it wasn't in 2008

Nor was it in 2012. I sent a 1972 Lotus there, and the buyer did not have much difficulty importing it. I am still not sure that there are many people keen to import Astras.

Its still pretty much impossible (In NSW at least) I looked into importing a few years ago and if its not pre 89 or you havent owned it for 12 months or more its a real ballache,

Theres the SEVS scheme for specialist vehicles and theres a couple of very unspecialist cars on there (Daewoo Matiz) http://rvcs-prodweb.dot.gov.au/sevs/sevsindex.htm

OP whats the issue with selling it in the UK?
