I bought a new Renault Clio last September (61 plate) and within the first few months of ownership it was plagued with starting problems, renault were very unhelpful and failed to do much that time claiming their diagnostic machine showed no fault but eventually replaced an engine sensor as a speculative fix.

It's happening again frown

Car really struggled into life on Friday, would not start over the w/end and only started this morning by cough and spluttering on its 4 attempt (30mins after another 3 goes).

I hate the car it is a lemon, what are my rights? I would have liked to have rejected the car units first few months of service but my wife gave Renault the benefit of the doubt.

(If they fail a fix this time can I take it to a specialist and bill Renault?).

It's not as simple as rejecting the car now 6months has lapsed, I could be wrong?

I've ordered a new SLK diesel for delivery in a few weeks though need to keep this car until September next year when the little one starts school as I need three seats until then. I owe £7,700 on this and estimate it will be around £6,300 when I come to sell it although my conscience would prevent me from selling damaged goods so it has to be rectified.

Going up against the manufacturers doesn't fair well for the little man usually.

If it was me I would take it back to your local Renault stealership and if they don't give you any joy, ring Renault UK.

Just noticed where you are (Staffordshire) Which dealer is it?

Bought from Sutton Group (Sutton Coldfield) and taken to Sutton Group Tamworth last year as I hadn't realised they had a more local dealership to me. Have to say they were very rude and unhelpful from the onset and I am wary of going back there. (I.e. not only did they fail to fix the problem it came back dirtier than when it went in and quarter of a tank lighter wink

What engine? The Petrols are well known for starting issues including crank position sensor or coil pack failure and also the throttle bodies can get gummed up and need cleaning out.

Try Sutton Park Renault in Burton.

My local Reno stealers were pissing me off by being totally useless and these were recomended to me.

It was out of my way but worth it as they were very unlike other Renault dealers in that they were polite, helpful, they actaully gave a st and the workshop manager knew what he was talking about.

I had some warranty work done by them on the brakes and they went that extra mile and were brilliant.

It shocked me too.
They obviously haven't been on Renault's inhouse customer service course. hehe

Give Fred at BTM Performance a ring, what he doesn't know about Clios isn't worth knowing. Not far from B'ham airport. 0121 783 6692. Tell him I sent you, well worth it, he is like a god on the Clio forum lol.

Thanks for all the advice, really helpful and I will now be heading off to Renault Burton. If this doesn't do the trick then I may consider the specialist and billing Renault directly.

Great response.

Remember though, if you dont get it fixed to your satisfaction, definitely ring Renault UK head office. They can be very helpful in getting franchise stealers to get their act together but hopefully SP Burton will sort it out.
