In opposition to the standard list of things we like....how about some we dont.
All my favourites to avoid are french without exception. They are just so cheap, when times are hard you just cant help yourself.
French mistakes I regret (amongst more than 20 better cars)
Citroen BX Gti. No rear brakes unless loaded!!!!
Peugeot 307 2.0 Hdi No go, tuppaware build quality
Shhhhh Renault Megane Convertible (06) - a whole new dimension in flexibility of rigid materials
French mistakes my wife regrets;
No not some guy called Pierre....
Peugeot 106 petrol brand new - intermittant electrical faults
Peugeot 106 diesel (nearly new) - killed by an accident with a chicken!
Renault Megane 1.4 (96) - so so so slow and cheeeeep build
Worst of all time award goes to
RENAULT MEGANE CONVERTIBLE

Never owned one but there's a whole plethora of British Leyland rubbish out there to be avoided at all costs.....

I loved my Citreon AX 1.0....kept it 8 years( the longest i have ever had a car) only let me down once in 130,000 miles when the alternator gave up. Traded it in for a C2....the worst car i have ever driven let alone owned, never ever buy one of them. Still have a perverse liking for the TR7
I had a Hillman Hunter. Despite it being just about as bland as you could get it was ultra reliable, and this at a time when cars were dreadful. The only thing that went wrong with it was the material behind the fusebox cracked so there was an intermittant fault with the fuses. I fitted a new fusebox, this time with a dozen fuses, and when I removed the old one I found the problem.
It had poor roadholding, dreadful fuel consumption for the engine size - 1725 - a gearbox with all the wrong ratios and dreadful steering, recirculating ball. It was an estate and it took me and my family on holidays all over Britain comfotably and reliably, if slowly. I got to like it.
Yet by any standards is was a dreadful car. It's funny what takes your fancy.

I think posters should state their age before posting in this thread - at least some first-hand knowledge would come in handy. Even the cars I hated back when they were new are now mildly to seriously alluring.
Citroen BX GTI, Pug 106, Renault 5 were all excellent cars in cooking AND shopping form back in the day.
The undue hate so far for the 70/80s BL cars smacks of regurgitated opinions, most of those cars had some genuine merits, and by the standards of the day were competitively engineered and priced.
How could a Land Rover Discovery be a car you SHOULD NOT OWN?
I find it really hard to think of any car that is so reprehensible that it shouldn't be owned.
All 80s Skoda/Zastava/Diahatsu-class should be on the list, but they are now furtively sexy. Lada Niva or Suzuki SJ on chunky mud tyres anyone?
Orion 1.6i Ghia - I'd take a 30k minter.
Yank V8s with FWD (Cadillac Eldorado, Oldsmobile Toronado, Buick Riviera et al) are oddly attractive.
A Nova GTE with an XE conversion - wrong but right.
1999 2000 Turbo Impreza in Dark Blue with silver wheels - yes please.
Apart from a form-over-function barry-job, I can't think of any cars I hate.

Everybody should have a Renault 5 at some point. I had an absolute nail of a 1.4 prima for about two months. Not a single f
k was given about it, to the extent I occasionally hit the bodywork with tools and jumped on the roof on the way down the drive, purely because I could. Practically no damage done. Incredibly resilient car

I've owned 2, in fact I liked them when they were new, but age has showed the design faults and unreliability that make them not worth owning as a means of transport.How could a Land Rover Discovery be a car you SHOULD NOT OWN?
