That’s not a 997.2 - it’s a .1 with the correspondingly bore score prone engine.
Any decent 997.2 is out of budget. Surprised the writer didn’t double check as it looked cheap even to me and I have little interest in 911s.
And correspondingly great value. The bore scoring thing is the usual internet hysteria, yes some will, but most won’t provided they’re treated properly. And the .1 sounds better wink

The first thing I would do to the 911 is throw out the manky aftermarket satnav and get a PCCM+ CarPlay unit installed. Will add about £1,400 to the cost
Another approach is to keep the original head unit and add a Bluetooth devices such as the ‘MR12volt’ (silly name) one.

It works really well, uses the steering wheel
Button if you have them for sound and phone and costs about £150!

I bought a 2008 manual Vantage roadster 18 months ago. Love it. The sound with the roof down is simply wonderful. It drives very well. Better balanced and able to put its power down much better than the F Type I had previously. Nothing has broken or gone wrong. In the time I’ve had it I’ve spent £500 on parts for a full diy service and another £1500 adding an Aston installations car play/hd screen kit which brings the tech up to modern standards without spoiling the classy cabin.

I'm very tempted by an M6 Convertible.

Not so crazy about the Coupe for some reason, whereas I love the Gran Coupe.

I suspect a large aperture for the 4 seats doesn't help with body stiffness, carbon M8 better in that respect.

Aston's a great choice...though their blue interiors aren't the best.

Always loved the way Morgans look...not keen on the chrome roll bar and the spoked wheels look a size too big.

The rest are a bit meh.

Aston look good but isnt particularly fun to drive at any sort of pace.

Run a C63S Coupe and they do sound epic, been down to visit friends on Dartmoor this weekend and the kettle was on before we pulled into their drive as they heard us coming.

Not sure how the Convertible drives compared to the Coupe but for pottering around at 30 making a great noise there can't be much better.

1bhp/kg Caterham doesn't merit a single comment?

I'd have that. For about 4.5 seconds (& potentially 100mph) before I had a massive accident it is true, but at least it would be an interesting talking point..

One flaw here, you’re in a country that has 2 weeks of summer

As long as it has some seat warmers, or a really good heater, convertibles are great in autumn and even winter too. In fact they may be even better.

I’d take the Mercedes out of that list, seems like it would be a lot of fun.

The sun doesn't have to be out to enjoy having the roof down.

I think the C63 here ticks the most boxes: handsome, nice inside and will make a lovely noise whilst still seating 4. The Elise would be fantastic, but you'd also still want one of the others!

I think F Type is an obvious omission. I want to like the Mustang, but I just don't think they're just too big, heavy and squishy to be considered versus most of those on the list.

A thread made for me, I’m about to spend around £30-35k on a nice sounding convertible and currently mustang is top of the list, would be interested in hearing experiences of it please.
I’ve never owned a Mustang or insert/delete any other American Muscle car, but I do tend to hire them when I’m the states (Very frequently). I had a 23 plate V8 last year for a couple of weeks, which entailed a 1000 mile plus drive across Texas after a flight cancellation at DFW. Out of the tens of thousands of miles I’ve done in American cars over the years, I always get out of them feeling underwhelmed. They don’t feel particularly fast, they aren’t particularly good to drive and the interiors arnet in my opinion the best places to be. They sound great, but it’s a lot of show and limited go in my experience. Still, that aside there’s something about them that does always draw me back. Id never not have one when I’m over in the states, they just make sense there. Fair play to having one here though and it looks great.

The Mustang reminds me a bit of my 370Z, and you buy them for the theatre of the engine/exhaust I think. The 370 never feels all that quick either, but the noise it makes...makes up for it though.

For power and sound alone, has to be the C63/M6.

For fun, the Lotus would win hands down.

For anyone complaining that their car of choice is missing off the list, this is SIX OF THE BEST and not THE SIX BEST. HTH

From the list, I'd take the Aston and/or the Lotus. Non of the others would make my shortlist, which, if limited to cars in the classifieds, would include:

Honda S2000 https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/16483768
Zenos e10 https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/16624691

F-Type is a big miss. Just had this R (575PS) for a few days - spectacular noise and excitement! £35k gets a nice early V8S (495PS) that sounds even better with no GPF

I'm a massive Honda fan, but you'd have to be bonkers to spend £22,000 on a 17 year old S2000. At about £8,000 they'd be a great car though.
