Why does it have no rear seats? Not much weight saved. I mean I know it's to look cool and that but. Perhaps 0.5s saved on a circuit but your shopping would be all over the rear footwells.
Say that to dealers asking 10 grand more for a Porsche 968 Clubsport over a standard 968. Same thing as the Golf, chuck out the rear seats, fit fancy front seats and it's a different car, apparently. Even Corsa Clubsports are worth more than the exactly the same spec Nurburgring VXR.

You can pay over 30k for a mk1 gti. This is ostensibly a new car, buy it, drive it, keep it or sell it just like you woukd with any car of this type/price. Like I said, of course its expensive but that's the market, both new and used. Find another as the boring cliche goes...

'The 911 GT3 of hot hatchbacks, superlative poise, performance and involvement'.....not my words, the words of EVO who gave it five stars...
You can skin it any way you want, but it’s a Golf, with a boring engine and some decent dampers and brakes. There’s a Megane and Civic and others that are very similar. Mk1 Golf GTI is an icon, this is just a modern Golf with no back seats smile
Agree to differ brother nab, that's what makes the world go round...I think 'Golf gti' is the iconic moniker, there have been some uninspiring ones, but for me, this isn't one of them!! I find it ridiculous that anyone would spend 30k on a mk1 Golf, but each to their own. Have a great evening man

Silly having something so big and heavy, and they don't bother putting rear seats in it. And also, two massive front doors are just daft. It's a big car, why would you only give it 3 doors?

And if you need to give it 3 doors and only have two seats, why not just have a massive removable plastic load tray and make it an excellent run-to-the-dump car? It's a fking golf, not a Lotus.

Wouldn’t a five door shell be a more rigid starting point for a CS?

was it done for any homologation race series.

Or is it just what folks want sometimes pointlessly:

Rear seat delete
Rear wiper delete
Brain delete

It's trendy to delete or so it seems

It's like the old M&S food advert. Its not just any Golf, its the M&S Clubsport Golf.

Take 1 x Golf R engine off the shelf.
Stick it into 1 x Golf GTI shell.
Remove 1 x set of rear seats.
Soften 1 x set of dampers for "Ring mode"
Take 1 x Sheddy old O2M/O2Q 6 speed manual that first appeared in the 2000 MK4 Golf and stick that in.
Insert 1 x pair of Recaro seats that VW get at huge bulk buy discount.

That's 14 billionty of your finest English pounds sterling, please.

Madness. And it's white as well, yawn. Why anyone wants a domestic appliance colour car is beyond me.

Ad says 2 owners. So bought by a collector new in 2016. Sold to another collector with delivery miles, probably soon after and making a few £K. clap

Collector/fool 2, parks it up for 8 years to then sell to collector/fool number 3 who will probably do the same.

So 3 owners and no drivers/enthusiasts among them. banghead

I get the quick flip first time around, he/she/they maybe owned it for a week and put 375 of the 380 miles on it, then trousered £5-10k for the pleasure.
It's possible literally every collector in the future will just park it up to have a Golf to look at in their collection. nononuts
£34k in 2016 is £44500 today allowing for inflation so no real trousering has taken place by anyone.

Except that most of us were better off in 2016 and, comparatively, £34k didn't seem that much. £44k, now, is taking the Michael.

I gave it 5 stars BUT deleting the rear seats is dumb. "Oh, it's soooo much faster without the rear seats!"

The Mk7 Golf was a great car in both GTI and R guises. Possibly the only car I've ever owned that had zero design or implementation faults and absolutely no annoying features.

My guess is that the majority of the 'boring' crowd have never had the pleasure of living with one.

I'd happily have this as an Nth car, although not at £45k.

Isn't that an expensive way to get a big Clubsport sticker and some Pole Position seats?

Kind of, but then I’ve never really gotten too upset at the law of diminishing marginal returns when it comes to a weekend car

The CS is the one I wanted, they’re always going to be more expensive than a regular 968, but they’re still a fraction of the cost of anything else that ever left Zuffenhausen having been on a bit of a diet

I googled the weight of the 968 Clubsport to find out how it compared to it's predecessor, the 944 S2. At least the 968 Clubsport looks better...

Back in the day the 968CS was regarded as one of the best handling cars made. Lovely things.

So a classic car widely revered is suddenly no good. It’ll be more fun still than half the modern overweight crap.
