Garage wrecked my Range Rover engine… please help

I think a certain kind of person can only be seen in a RangeRover. An acquaintance is an old money wealthy guy who runs a small farm as basically a hobby - he’s had loads of trouble with several models but looks at me as if I’m mad when I wonder why he keeps buying them. And our CEO’s wife, who doesn’t work but plays at being a property developer with her husbands money - they’ve (our boss has to sort out the problems) particularly had problems with the dealer they use being useless.

I keep reading stories like this, where people buy hugely expensive when new older cars, then get landed with a colossal bill when, I presume, they were hoping for Hyundai I10 running costs.

This one, and the one where the bloke bought an Aston Martin for about £20K, then more or less immediately had a £12K bill as the engine borked. I'm sure there are plenty of others too.

I did say to my wife we'd get an old-ish Aston when we retire as a bit of fun, but stories like that have put me off I'm honest.

It should, you would hope, be obvious that a £100K when new car is going to always have £100K when new running costs but it doesn't seem to be I guess. Or there are a lot of people crossing their fingers.

Bad example. My old boss had a 1.0 Hyundai i10 and a cracked exhaust manifold was found on the MOT.

We didn't "balls up" fitting the carpet (so eloquently put Sir!)... the carpet was the wrong shape.
Obviously you have never made a mistake in your entire life and always expect and receive perfect goods from perfect retailers and have never received a shoddy product or shoddy service.

We made the mistake of fitting the kit from the outset and the carpet installer threw the old kit away...
I wont make the mistake of ever coming here again for legitimate polite advice.. as clearly its the wrong place to come.

I'm fairly sure when you whizz by in in Bonnie I won't give two hoots about your cheapo home build Cobra replica registered as a 1970 Rover. Having spent a lot of time around the real things as a youngster it'll probably offend my eyes, like the rear bumper mounted off centre for instance.

I christened it Bonnie because given your admitted expertise with the carpet I guess every now and again it'll fall apart .........

I think you're taking an off-hand comment far too seriously. I'm familiar with the rules, thank you - on re-reading to see if there was something I've missed, I still don't see what the fuss is about. That said offence is not what was intended so I've edited my post and removed that comment, and now we can move on.

Judging by the OPs ability to dish out an insult over the years, they can look after themselves.

Doesn't matter anyway. They're gone, yet again they didn't get the answer they wanted - which was a way to blame somebody else for their expensive mistake.
