Anyone know how many track miles a set of those historic dunlop tyres do (say a car less than a ton and not massive power)?

For me a huge part of the appeal of watching classic racing is how the cars slide around. I'd love to have a car one day that I could stick a set of those tyres on for some track day fun.
Not a massive amount - on a cold February day at Donington I took nearly half the life out of my front CR65s, rears weren't as bad fortunately as the car is gutless (125bhp, 650KG). They are superb fun, however trackdays are hit and miss as 99% of people nowadays seem devoid of imagination and turn up in whatever the latest M car/GT/AMG car is on their super sticky modern rubber, so be prepared to hold stuff up in the corners fairly often. Just have to wait for them to cook their brakes and go in, then make hay while the sun shines driving

Gorgeous. Never owned one, but did hire one in that colour for a day back in early 97 and have always wanted one since.

Just out of interest, do you still own your Sud Sprint? Another car I almost owned, having driven one but never taken the plunge in my younger days....your taste in cars gets my seal of approval!beer

I rarely quote Clarkson, but I do relate to his line on being able to fit in any car I like. Unfortunately that approach falls down when I try to get into a Z3 M-Coupe frown

I love the Alpine and racing Elan Sprint combination. thumbup

The Elise and Alfasud both look great too - no Barges on the last couple of pages!

Yes it's mine, and the only colour scheme I wanted. Unfortunately there aren't many in Pistachio - only nine I believe.

It's great fun to drive (but you knew that smile), and that fun can be had at sane speeds thanks to skinny tyres. It has delicate and feelsome handling as can only come from light weight, and it rides amazingly well.

Mine is a very original car having never been restored: I'm the second owner, and it has only 35,000 miles from new.

I'd recommend everyone gets to experience an Elan if they can. driving

Ha! Love it!

I set mine up way too stiff in that picture above at Snetterton, the inside front wheel is about a foot in the air there! Doh.

That would do! Though I think the budget may only stretch to an Elan homage
i.e. an MX5
