Cripes, it’s not a looker, is it?
What’s up with the rear wheels… did it once have a different chassis with a longer wheelbase?
Agreed it doesn't have the elegant simplicity of a 'standard' 11 or 15, but an interesting curio. Would be hysterical to take the 'breadvan' model to one of those trendy car shows to see what the youths make of "dat fitment, bruv".What’s up with the rear wheels… did it once have a different chassis with a longer wheelbase?
Little update on my GT3 - got new tyres fitted last week and will see if I can get it down to Sussex this weekend to see how they feel. I've gone for the Conti Sportcontact 7 which replace a set of Cup2s. The latter were about 6 years old and lasted phenomenally well through track and road miles. From what I've read, the former might have dry pace similar to the Cup2 but obviously far superior ability in the damp/wet, so it will be interesting.
I used mytyres.co.uk and that will be the last time I think. Thanks to customs checks it took 4 weeks to arrive at the tyre fitter's.
So I went to Germany in mid-June (to take my young son to an England game) with worn Cups and hoping it wouldn't rain too much. On the Sunday I was hoping we'd get some decent autobahn time but it was busy everywhere we went and it usually started drizzling as soon as I saw a derestricted sign..
At one point in the weekend there was sustained rain and all I could do was follow in the wheel tracks of a lorry. Nearly 1000 miles covered over the 3 days including some nice roads around the 'ring, and 5 countries in a day on the trip home (DE, NL, BE, FR, UK) which was a fun little factoid for us.

We have access to a house near Naples. Its a very rural location. I've not driven there since 2005 - don't worry I won't post the pics AGAIN. I keep telling myself I'll do it this Summer but never do. I toy with the idea of leaving a car there so I can then fly over for a few days and it's there to enjoy. Roads are hilly, curvy, simply brilliant and basically deserted. But it's 1500 miles from here to there and however you do it that's a lot of boring motorway. And I would be on my own probably. And I know its super complicated leaving a car abroad. So I'd need to bring it home again after a few months. Reading that back it doesn't sound totally awful. All very doable, maybe. L100NYY said:
Really enjoyed that chap, looks great fun and although twitchy rather predictable too?
Was reminiscing with a friend this morning about Elise/Exige/Nobles and I am now itching to get back on track again![banghead](/inc/images/banghead.gif)
It’s a very short wheelbase so you need quick hands but the car tells you exactly what it’s doing and the Salisbury diff puts the power down perfectly. I hate to sound gushy but after driving an Elan on L sections (wet or dry) everything else just seems a bit … meh! I love it so much I’m now actively looking for an Elan to drive on the road
Anyone know how many track miles a set of those historic dunlop tyres do (say a car less than a ton and not massive power)?
For me a huge part of the appeal of watching classic racing is how the cars slide around. I'd love to have a car one day that I could stick a set of those tyres on for some track day fun.

This is probably my best driving in the Elan. Pissing we test day at Silverstone and took me all day to be able to drive it like this. The challenge of racing is you have to turn up get in the car and just do it! More seat time needed…
I’m sure you will have, but in the unlikely event that you haven’t, get tuition, it will be the best money you spend all weekend.
