Thought you guys would appreciate this pic from my weekend. Was racing the Elan 26R at Snetterton (another signature on the licence, only 3 more to go!) and drove the Alpine A110 down there so my preparer Tom could take it away and sort it out. The amount of attention the A110 got in the paddock was insane.
Cheburator came to watch me and kindly gave me a list home in his Maserati Granturismo - how underrated are they…
Yes, bought the A110 on impulse about 3 years ago - had always always wanted one and this is a 1600S so pretty rare, with old FIA papers and lots of history. Paid a 'full' price for it (£95k) and then realised after a few weeks it was not in a great way including rotten chassis. That took a year and £12k to sort out, rebuilding Webers and gearbox along the way. Almost given up on it many times but a car loving friend borrowed it, fitted Lumenition ignition to it (so now it actually runs really reliably) and used it for a few weekends to iron out some niggles. I then fitted correct Pirelli CN36 tyres to it. The job list seems never ending but if we can sort the gear linkage out, cure the steering wheel wobble and quiet the exhaust down a bit we're pretty much there. It's a cracking little sports car and feels so special when you're in it.

The Elan is a 26R replica built to a very, very high spec by Dean Lanzante. I was taken round Zandvoort in it by the previous owner who is a historic racer of some repute - he quite simply blew my mind with what the car could do, how it felt on the historic Dunlop racing tyres. 591kg and 187bhp from the Ford/Lotus twin cam (1558cc). I decided then and there I was going either to learn how to do what he'd just done or give up track days altogether and just waft about in classic cars. A year or so later I managed to persuade him to sell it to me and I did my first race weekend in June. It's been such a fun journey. Next race is at Anglesey July 21st with CSCC.
