Are these the same car as a first or second generation Citroen Saxo? An ex-girlfriend went from an AX GT to a 1st gen Saxo VTR - I remember it being quite tinny but an absolute hoot to sling around. I've never driven the slightly perkier VTS but they hark from the days of super-light hatches rather than the lardier later offerings.
The mk1 was only a 1300 I think but possibly with a lower ratio box. I Am Not An Expert. It had a lot of stuff removed to make it lighter - well not a lot by modern standards as these are pretty basic out the box. I know a guy who has one and it's just having a bare metal respray but I've never seen it. Hoping to once it's all done. Edit its back from its respray and looking fresh.

saxo and 106 are the same base car. There was no equivalent of the 106 rallye in the saxo range though. VTR is equivalent to the 106 GTi. 106 was a slightly better car. VTR was better than the VTS by most estimations as even though the VTS was quicker the throttle response / pick-up felt more sluggish and was a lot more expensive. VTR was great fun to chuck around.

Wasn't it the VTS that was equivalent to the GTi? They both had 120bhp as far as I remember whereas the VTR was more like 90-100bhp (although still felt pretty rapid when they came out aged 17!)

Different drive train to the Saxo VTR/S. Speaking of which, both were great fun to drive back in the day. Every now and again I have a little look for a clean lowish mileage VTS as I think it's a safe investment whilst being a riot on the back roads. Prices have been climbing for a little while though.

yea you're right the VTS is equivalent to the GTi as are both 16v. The 8v was used in the VTR and the 106 Rallye.

I believe the mk1 Rallye was smaller than 1600. Maybe 1300 or 1400. There was a mk1 gti but I'd guess it was 1600. Can't remember. My mate had one brand new with a wide arch kit from the factory. I'll ask him if he has any pics.

My sister's boyfriend (at the time) had a 1.3 Rallye and then a 1.6. He used to drive them everywhere on 3 wheels.

Don't think I could spend £17k on an S2 Rallye with a 6-figure mileage. if you actually used it, the value would instantly collapse.

This is cool.

I've got £1 for the first person to find somewhere on that car that two separate pieces meet (body panels, plastic trim, bits of the interior) where they actually line up properly. The whole car looks like a sharp tap with a wooden mallet would see it completely come to pieces like some sort of clown car hehe

That's probably true, but I still like it.

The S1 Rallye was a 1.3
The S1 XSi was a 1.4

Love that. Had, and loved, a 145 green cloverleaf, absolute hoot and resolutely old school feeling

That 131 is loverlee!

Old man had a 1600 t/c 131 a Supermirafiori in 70's dog poo brown, velour interior and Voxon radio. Lovely raspy thing it was too.
Same spec as my mum's 131, it was followed by a Fiat Argenta.
131 stunning, that Morris is heaven, Anglia one of the only fords I reqlly covet. I had a rare 132 two litre twin cam.. brilliant thing with the best gearbox I've experienced

Thank God (or other deity/sky fairy/bottle of worshipful booze/whatever for this thread)!

512BB for me from those musings - it, along with the Countach was the Top Trumps big boy back in the late 1970’s and those curves are achingly beautiful even now.
The BB in all its iterations from early to late is one of THE supercars for me. Up there with the Bora and original Countach, the unadorned one as unparalleled examples of outrageous elegance...

Finally got my garage built. It cost more than the car it houses which Mrs FB can't get her head around laugh
