Allegedly 0 to 60 around 4 secs

V12, 4 secs, nice looks with no pig snout front end, would benefit from a dark oxblood interior. Not bad for the price of a new cheap family car.

Actually 6.1 to 60 is dam quick for a 2 ton barge but I don't think you buy one of these cars for the traffic light grand prix. It's an interesting alternative to a used A8, 7 series or S class, isn't it, if you 'must' have the correct number of cylinders. What intrigues me about them is they form part of the obscure collection of cars we might call "Piech vanity projects", along with the Veyron.

It's interesting to see what happens when a manufacturer like VW, then in their pomp don't forget pre-dieselgate, puts god-level resources behind a maverick genius like Piech.

VW had already under his leadership redefined what a modern Bentley should/could be with the Conti GT, now it's as if he wanted to get VW to compete with VW-owned Bentley just for sts and giggles.

Some interesting nuggets here https://jalopnik.com/the-pain-and-pleasure-of-brie...
It dovetails with the other conversation. The VW badge seemingly doomed it before a wheel turned, completely at odds with the underlying engineering (arguably wasted on most). Something else I have never even sat in, I wonder how much of the ultimate capability of the uber-Phaeton is present in the humble 3.0 dag-dag.

This would have been interesting:

Not sure why I find these appealing:

Up for auction at the weekend here: https://angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic-auctions/2...

Did a little due diligence on it and found the previous two sales:

Nov 21 at Bonhams

Buyer sold it via a dealer in Scotland some time later
You find them so appealing because they are effortlessly cool. I ran an estate for a wee while, utterly brilliant thing

It sold for what appeared to be a relatively low price (compared to the previous sales anyway). I wonder where it will pop up next.

Swiss Import not yet registered here, so maybe worth checking if there is VAT yet to pay? Oddly enough the bulk of Alpina’s B10 3.0 AllRad’s were sold in Switzerland for all that white fluffy stuff that doesn’t really happen anymore because of some girl called Greta?!?

It was supposed to use the same 265bhp engine as the E36 B3 3.0 but for whatever potential frailties the Alpina geeks saw in the 4wd system of the 525iX cars they were based upon, the engine was detuned to 250bhp.

There are 3 right hand hand drive cars which were put together by Sytner for UK customers, two saloons and a Touring.

Might be useful if you can find some white fluffy stuff but otherwise the vagaries and ‘uniqueness’ of BMW’s four wheel drive system will leave you weighed down and occasionally broken down.

Isn’t Calypso red pretty on an old BMW though biggrin

I remember one of the RHD E34 Allrad cars being featured in Performance BMW circa 2003.

Lots of want then & now.

I cannot describe in words how much better than the usual cucktronic models those Volvos are with a manual gearbox. If that was a V70 I think it'd go in a shot for that money, the demand is much weaker for the saloons though.

I remember that and the earlier article about the same in BMW Car Magazine; the last I heard the same chap still owned it.

E24 Alpina is lush; always wanted one But I never had the opportunity and funds at the same time. Too damned expensive now.

Never liked it, probably my least favourite BMW shade and always avoided cars in that colour when we were offered them on trade-in, or if we did get a car that shade then it was usually traded to another dealer; I remember once we got a nice J reg 750i (not long wheelbase) on trade-in against an 850ci, the 7 series ended up in stock for a good 6 months before being traded to another dealer. Shame as it drove really nicely being the shorter wheelbase, I could just never stomach the colour. It was weird as cars that shade when parked on the 'used car lot' always used to attract more bird st than other colours, so the car-valeter hated it too!

The tyres and exhaust on that saloon are giving me extreme whiffs of 'been spanked round a track for years and just put the crusty old interior back in to sell it'.
