Not sure why I find these appealing:

Up for auction at the weekend here: https://angliacarauctions.co.uk/classic-auctions/2...

Did a little due diligence on it and found the previous two sales:

Nov 21 at Bonhams

Buyer sold it via a dealer in Scotland some time later
I really like these, especially the estates with a few mods

I'll be down there tomorrow with my 981 Cayman GTS, currently for sale, going to keep my 996 for the long term.

I’ll be honest, I can’t ever recall looking at or thinking about welding on a motor. Ever.
But then I’ve never given a rat fk about shutlines either. Or what colour wheels it has.
Caring about the engineering integrity of a stupid Italian car is a bit like caring about the mental instability of your stupidly hot stunning Italian gf. No pain, no gain.

Poor shut lines and panel fit are a pet hate of mine. There's no excuse for it on a resto. Either do a job properly or don't bother. There are some awful 911 back dates out there, some the big names shouldn't be ashamed of the 'quality' of their work.

The talk of 928's made me look at this again, which sadly for me, now that funds are available, has now sold.

I need to experience a manual 928, that and the e31 840i really float my boat at the moment
Here is another...

Love that 928 interior smile
Anyway, catching up on the week, the £85k Bora madness was also my reaction to Loon when he showed me the add. Barking at that price!
928GTs and GTS are also starting to resemble astoundingly good deals given the prices that 944 Turbos are starting to acquire, the 928 being the better car by a country mile.
As to who finds 3-400HP 80/90s Donkeys “slow” mad only as fast as 2010 hot hatches, well I would posit to suggest that not even a parrot would be helpful in locating the point for you…

Not what I was saying. I as saying they are badly designed and poorly constructed cars which if they didnt have the yellow badge on would be about as desirable as - I dunno, pick a crap 80s car.

Speaking of 928s, I was randomly talking to the seller of this last week: https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/16813921

I know it’s an auto, which I don’t think would worry me on a 928, but I agree they do seem to represent decent enough value in the current market. Personally I’d want one more than an 850 CSi, but maybe not more than a 500E which is probably top of my current 90s wish list

(Haven’t seen it btw, but his 3.2 Carrera was lovely!)

I haven't ever wanted one.

How did 0-62 take 6.1 seconds with over 400BHP and AWD?

My 2005 Shed BMW 330i managed it in a claimed 6.3 with just 258PS and RWD for less than a quarter of the price 5 years ago!

Actually 6.1 to 60 is dam quick for a 2 ton barge but I don't think you buy one of these cars for the traffic light grand prix. It's an interesting alternative to a used A8, 7 series or S class, isn't it, if you 'must' have the correct number of cylinders. What intrigues me about them is they form part of the obscure collection of cars we might call "Piech vanity projects", along with the Veyron.

It's interesting to see what happens when a manufacturer like VW, then in their pomp don't forget pre-dieselgate, puts god-level resources behind a maverick genius like Piech.

VW had already under his leadership redefined what a modern Bentley should/could be with the Conti GT, now it's as if he wanted to get VW to compete with VW-owned Bentley just for sts and giggles.

Some interesting nuggets here https://jalopnik.com/the-pain-and-pleasure-of-brie...

Slow 0-60 but rapid on the autobahn.
