How in HELL is a Bora selling at only £85k+???

What did I miss?
I don't get it either... This has to be the most misunderstood supercar of the 1970s...

1) Mid engined - tick
2) Race derived V8 - tick
3) Sublime chassis - tick
4) Sublime looks - tick
5) Easy to live with - tick

£50k normally gets you into a wreck needing £50k to become a £60k car so yes, this Bora is steal. Wonder if he would take a Part Ex on a 928 GTS 5spd and some cash his way? Hmm...

The Duke of London have a habit of unearthing and selling stunning bargains - they had a gorgeous E34 M5 Touring for £30k recently... It sold in 2 weeks from memory.
I was going to say "I' don't think I've ever seen one in the flesh", but reading the advert it's one of 42 RHD and 564 total, so it's not that surprising. Are Maserati in general something of a sleeper in value terms?
They just have to go the way of the Espada eventually. Surprised Harry doesn't have one. IIIRC he has a Merak? Would imagine Iain Tyrrell would be your chap for a decent set-up. If I wasn't oop-North I'd be off for a look.

I think the old Top Gear episode about £10k supercars put quite a lot of people off.

There was a lovely Marek at the new caffeine and machine last week. Lovely looking things, it must be fairly local as I saw it on the A3 the other day as well

I would not be putting a Maserati anywhere near Mr Tyrrell… McGrath are a World Renown specialist who are Maserati Clasiche certified. They don’t have a YouTube channel, but their work is top notch. As for Espada values - hmm, in period the Bora competed with the Miura and Daytona. Very similar performance in real life, but you could actually drive it long distance without going mad. Thus the idea of getting a bonafide Miura competitor with real pedigree for £90k is just mad…

P.S. I still have the Classic Car mag where D Bell drives a Bora alongside a vast range of supercars including an F1 and pronounced the Bora as the biggest surprise in a positive way. According to him it just got on with the business of munching miles at speed with great poise and competence…

laughclapA bit lower in the food chain perhaps, but as it was the first car I ever bought I couldn't resist. My one was exactly the same spec/colour bar the wheels. I had ATS 5 spokes on mine. Did a Weber twin choke conversion to be rid of the GM Variojet do-dah replete with a K&N pancake filter. Did many miles in the BLUE (!!) interior and learned about 3rd gear slides off of roundabouts just south of the Tyne tunnel.....dunno what my face looked like, but the bloke overtaking me in the outside lane was pishing himself with laughter....drivingrofl

I bought mine for a bag, this one's on Fb for a bit more......

Loved mine and you have just described third gear perfectly!!

What do we think of this then and the price it sold for? (£28,400, which is probably roundabout what a 10k mile, standard example would sell for)

Built by DesignQ, for someone who no doubt spent an absolute fortune on updating their ageing (10 years old at the time 4200GT). Video of the owner and process can be found here... definitely not a botch job.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuVbDh2F3Dc

I think the rear is really well done and like the 3200GT style lights, the front bumper definitely looks more modern and suits the car, but I think there are a few too many vents. Wheels are pretty nasty though.

https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/2005-maserati-...

My only concern is that QDesign is not Zagato or the likes of, so will the uniqueness add or detract value over time? Not that it matters, I am sure the new owner is happy and it will certainly stand out from the crowd at shows and makes a good talking point.

ETA a few more pictures...I really like this actually, i reckon spending a couple of grand on some custom wheels, would absolutely make the car.

So a PPI from McGrath would be ideal? Appears they do them. I always wonder how well that might go down with the trade-seller? I'm seriously interested in this Bora but of course the caution is forever present. Thanks for the recco wink

Edit - Looks like McGrath have been part of it's ongoing maintenance. I'll call them ramorra!

I can remember that interior from my first car - an Opel Ascona B 2.0S in that dark yellow of the Opel racing colours. Mine was a black interior but someone had specced Recaro seats up front so it was a nice place to be even with that super long and cranked gear-lever.

It was just like this...

In other news I got the chance to drool over this car this week...

Having helped my brother restore an E-Type S2 Coupe which was in a similar condition, I can categorically state, that unless you really are into the M part of BSDM and are handy with a grinder, welder, and a paint gun, this car should be stripped for parts to help save other Maseratis... frown

A few years back someone started restoring one of these on PH. It was red and was resprayed dark green.
Seemed to have all the required skills and it was a high quantity resto.
But it petered out as far as I know as the updates ceased.

A slight diversion from all things Maserati, yesterday I saw, on my local high street, a new fully winged up 911 RS. Very nice it was too and daft as anything but who cares.
Today, in an unlikely coincidence, driving through the local supermarket car park I saw a Manthay version of the same car but all in black and blimey, that’s quite a bit of equipment indeed. Very interesting wheels.

Anyway, has Bubba bought the Sublime 70s dream car yet?
