RE: 2024 Lotus Emeya | PH Review
Discussion
RE the styling - it would be interesting to know what people think it should have looked like. Looks better than the Panamera to my eyes, and that doesn't even have the excuse of needing to be aerodynamically efficient for range. Is there anything in the Emeya's market that doesn't have that aero-dictated shape?

Literally looked at the pictures and the price, not read a single word of the article as it just doesn't do anything for me.
Not sure who's going to buy this given it doesn't look very appealing and the price is immense.
Wise decision! When the writer starts describing cars like being "elfin" it's best just to look at the photos. Not sure who's going to buy this given it doesn't look very appealing and the price is immense.
I actually didn't like this when I first saw the shots of it testing in the arctic, but I don't mind the look of this. I'd consider this over a Taycan if I wanted something a little bit more sedate.

Yeah I agree. Hence I wonder if the model choice was the right one. The mid sized EV SUV and Saloon spaces are super crowded with other products. I feel it's perhaps why companies like Lucid and Fisker have struggled whereas Rivian have struggled less (hesitant to say successful) as they entered market where there were no EV pickups (at the time). People brought an R1T because they liked the idea of an EV truck and not because they liked the idea of a Rivian or had any idea of what a Rivian should be.
Lucid Air is an intriguing and very good car to be honest. It feels fresh, new and special in many ways. We're still not seeing many on the roads over here in the US, despite some incredible lease deals. I think a Lucid made its way to the UK to be reverse engineered *cough*. Fisker was always going to be doomed from what I understand with regards their re-appearance into the market. Rivians are here and there. I hope they manage to stick around. The smaller model that just came out looks a bit s

You're right about Fisker for sure, but the market they entered is also hyper competitive which was an additional nail in the cofin.

As usual from Nick that was a bloody hard read.
I'm glad it wasn't just me that thought that. The misplacement of paragraph breaks in there is brutal. You can't start reading any paragraph in isolation. You have to have immediately read the one before it to have any comprehension.I know it's free, but so are many forums / reviews / youtube channels - and many can compose a better article.

Oh completely agree. The Lucid is a great car, but as you've noticed, there aren't any around. I didn't see a single one in my three weeks in NY/Philly last month apart from the ones in the Chelsea showroom compared to probably 10-15 R1Ts and R1Ss and I genuinely think that's due to the market space the Air is in. So if a great car like the Air struggles, how is the Emeya going to do against much cheaper competition?

US market is pushing back hard on EV, certainly in my part of the world. Perhaps it's different in Cali/NYC.
I'm not sure what Porsche are going to do when EV Macan hits over here, all indications are pointing to a flop.
I have to say I was deeply impressed with a BYD that I saw over in the UK last month. Looked great for its target market. Interior was excellent and felt fresh and different. Not sure of the price point but I have a feeling traditional OEMs are about to get crushed.
Which going back to Lotus, I just don't see these doing well vs Taycan/E-Tron EQ whatever. Especially with those looks.

The Lotus we all knew and loved is gone I'm afraid. sad but true!
Yup. 25 years of being a car company that doesn't sell cars and then out of the blue randomly chucking all that hard earned heritage in the bin by switching to be a car company that sells cars is a pretty bitter pill to come to terms with. ![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)

crikey, 2.6 tons and WLTP of 270 miles, that will struggle to do 200!
Take stated range and times by 0.7 to get realistic range then factor in 80% charging ergo actual range of 151m ![whistle](/inc/images/whistle.gif)
It's ok though as pretty much no one needs more than 10m a day we are told on here.

I think you may misunderstand the 80% charge limit also. The battery overhead is not available to be charged by the owner and charging control ensures batteries are not overstressed under charging.
of the many issues i have with this car in fairness, looks isn't one of them.
it's too lazy to say all new cars look the same. because as far as i can make out, middle aged men have been saying that for 30 odd years at least. Remember the famous Car magazine cover "Euro Car Clones" - bemoaning all modern cars as looking the same? That was July 1990 - and i thought everything was better in the 90s?
It looks good to me - it's just absolutely enormous (nearly 5.2 meters - for something that isnt an airport taxi!!?) and doesn't sound like it has a single thing going for it vs. its competition from Porsche. And has a Lotus badge with no involvement from Hethal. Looks good tho, so there's that...

Yep. Designed in Coventry, dynamics team in Frankfurt (dynamics led by and signed off by Gavan Kershaw), manufactured in Wuhan. Hethel is just supposed to be sports cars. And i dont know much about marketing, but surely Lotus as a brand was aimed entirely at nerds, who by definition won't want this. Wonder if anyone did the calculations on the pros and cons of using Lotus vs. something brand new, like BYD have attempted...
