Aston Martin Virage 7.0 Litre Turbo by Lynx - 1994
Built in 1994 as number 3 of 9 LE coupes, this car found itself in the hands of an enthusiastic Aston Martin customer. Dissatisfied with the cars performance, Mr Hans Rausing engaged the services of several specialist engineering companies, managed by the renowned Lynx Engineering. The brief was to maintain the outward appearance of a standard Virage - no hood scoops or vents - and to review and re-engineer every mechanical component, chassis, transmission, suspension, steering and braking, to enhance this car's dynamic qualities. The result was 720 bhp and 1.146 lb/ft torque

Presumably the Tetra-Pak heir, billionaire and Uncle of current Sauber chairman Finn Rausing.![](https://i.imgur.com/lUaOLKx.jpg)

One of the least attractive Astons ever built IMHO.
Anyone know what the rear suspension setup was for these? I wouldn’t be surprised to learn it was live axle and leaf springs.
Lastly, in this case in particular, why would one want an auto ‘box on such a car. Surely rowing your own gears is part of the appeal?
Hard pass on many levels. Trading on brand cachet alone.

Aston haven't used leaf springs since the 1930s, and moved on from the live axle after the DB6 in 1970.Anyone know what the rear suspension setup was for these? I wouldn’t be surprised to learn it was live axle and leaf springs.

But, crucially, did Mr Rausing's budget stretch to having the switchgear upgraded?
he wanted to keep the car as standard looking as possible ive seen the documents over £200k on top of the price of the car back in 93 .......... I don't think he drove the car when it was completed , I know the present owner traded a DB7 for the car , incredible performance

The Vantage is more of a GT than a sports car, to say the least, so an auto makes sense from that perspective.Anyone know what the rear suspension setup was for these? I wouldn’t be surprised to learn it was live axle and leaf springs.

The Sultan also liked one-offs and individuality.
I disagree about the looks, which I think are stunning. Agree with everyone on the steering wheel, which would be my only modification.

The Owner then left the car in storage .. These Billionaire eccentrics are on a different level , going to all that expense then once the car is completed they don't drive it !!

When you look at the correspondence and paperwork between the original owner and RS williams , Brodie racing, It took over a year to design and manufacture the parts required .. The exhaust is titanium plus all the hundreds of man hours involved to complete the car.

Quite, all that awesome engineering work and expenditure...on a Virage. The Owner then left the car in storage .. These Billionaire eccentrics are on a different level , going to all that expense then once the car is completed they don't drive it !!

I recall a family friend getting the AML demonstrator Virage Volante as his wedding car in 1994, still mentions what a heap of **** he thought it was.

It is a De-Dion tubular beam with four trailing links and a form of watts linkage. Earlier Virage had a aluminium A frame De-dion like an Alfa 75. Which was rubbish.

What is extraordinary is what RS Williams has done to double the power output from the standard 330 hp to 700 hp , It is the Torque thats most impressive from 369 lb ft to 1,100 lb·ft at 3,500 rpm
Compared to my DBS V12 with 510 BHP and (420 lb⋅ft) at 5,750 rpm
The rear lights are an abysmal layout, you pay all that money and get only 1 reversing light, the front design is also terrible, with 0% in styling, from a company that is capable of designing and creating breathtaking, jaw-dropping vehicles, with curvy lines that are sex on wheels. I am a lifetime Aston Martin fanatic, but this design simply doesn't cut it, any more than the hideous square cut Aston Martin did, back in time, Aston Martins designs are all about beautiful curves and aerodynamics that all of their other models have in spades.
