RE: Tasty MZR Datsun 240Z Sport-Design for sale
Discussion
I've always loved cars that sort of shape ever since a classmate at primary school brought in a Corgi model of an E-Type FHC that became my dream car!
So I loved 240Zs, 260Zs and GT6s as well but by the time I could possibly afford any of them they were all getting a bit tired and crusty so in the 80s I had a couple of 2.8 Injection Capris that were sort of similar and I loved them. But then mortgages and other boring stuff came along.
Until in 2014 I found myself single with no mortgage, so I bought my first of three BMW Z4 Coupes.
I knew the E-Type boat had sailed years ago!
It's a stunning car although like most resto-mods it's not cheap - but given how much labour must go into getting it like that it's understandable.
But I'm sure there will be Nissan Z fans who'd love it.

“ each is stripped down to bare metal, dipped in epoxy primer, stitch-welded, liberally strengthened and introduced to some sound deadening. ”
The process surely is not done in that order. Welding over epoxy primer aside rom the health implications for the welder does not produce a decent weld.
Back in the day i wanted either a 240Z, a 260Z, a 3 litre Capri, a GT6 or a MGB V8. Ruled out the later two as i wanted four decent seats to get my mates in. Capri’s at the time were more within my budget and more available so thats where my money went.
Would not want a Capri now, i would have a 240Z or 260Z, and its zed not that awful Americanisation zee.
For 100k i think my money now though would go on a Cayman. Nostalgia can be a wonderful thing then you take off the rose tinted glasses.

That really is lovely!
I'd be interested in something like this - lovely colour, silver Minilites, original interior and virtually brand new. Oh, and half the price....

Re: the yellow car, 100 grand is a bit steep, but good luck recreating something like this for cheaper..
Its beautiful and Id have it in a heartbeat if I had the cash
Whats more noticeable is that DK Engineering seem to be branching out from "POA" to the auction model
I get that a niche Nissan is hard/impossible to price however the 458 Speciale they are also auctioning is possibly worthy of discussion?
Cheers
I do like the 240Z, but they can rot. And there's plenty of salty air coming off the sea, on the west coast of America. So unless that's had some metal replaced, all that under coat could be covering up some tin worm. That and almost an extra 100 bhp could test the rigidity of the shell a bit.
My late father in the early 70s bought his 1st ever Datsun also a bright orange 240Z , after the 240 he bought a brand new MK2 Capri 2.0 Ghia he hated it and within 3 months ordered another Datsun.
After several more Datsuns his last was a brand new W reg Skyline 240KGT which from ordering it he had it within 10 weeks & at least 6 or 7 of the weeks was making.its way from Japan then upto Leeds.

All the Datsun HSL30 that are in the UK are from sunny California and are in much better body condition compared to UK model cars. Alot of people use the HSL30 and convert to right hand drive like MZR, which on paper are not genuine HS30.RSstuff said:

I'd pick a car that's been based in Arizona over California, every day of the week. You think it doesn't rain in California?Mysstree said:

I forgot the 3 litre Capris in my earlier post. I just got a 2.8i because as 80s cars they weren't as tired/crusty as the 70s options.Would not want a Capri now, i would have a 240Z or 260Z, and its zed not that awful Americanisation zee.

A mate insisted I drive his MK3 Capri a few years ago and I wondered what I saw in them. That's when I realised as much as I enjoyed them in their era nostalgia just wasn't for me!
My current toy is a "Zed"4M Coupe I bought in 2019. I could have a few more of them for the price of that Nissan.
