Consider getting a big dog. Mine is super friendly until someone he doesn't know rocks up at the house when he'll go absolutely ballistic.

Woke up this morning to find three lads have been checking out the car. Floodlights and security cameras stopped them in their tracks and soon vanished, but had enough now. Last time was 5 years ago.

Going to get the ball rolling this week with offloading the car asap
Your driveways perfect for deployable bollards, automated ones would be ideal.

Are they not more likely to then go a bit more extreme and make you give them the bollard release key / fob / etc ?

I suppose thats the balancing act they have to decide on, do you really want to fortify your house to find the weak point becomes the journey to and from your vehicle?

How much fight is in the dog?

Think you'd be unlucky to be targeted by hard-core ones that would get physical with no provocation.

A lot of them just want a quick relay theft and to be gone.

I watched a video on YouTube where an RS6 was stolen that was parked parallel with a big bush and fence in the owners garden, they just used the electric gate un locker thing in the car and drove it away.

Automated bollards would probably be ok, providing the remote isn't left in the car, otherwise they'll just take it anyway.

I'd be looking at gates, probably anti ram retractable poles, plus a steering lock for the car.. then aftermarket stuff added to the car. But then one you've gone to all that trouble you have to think is it really worth it?

I have also seen a video where they came for a Fiesta ST, and one thief stood by the front door with a fire extinguisher, ready to let off if the owner ran out.

I don't think I'd have bought mine if I didn't have a garage to hide it in and I'm careful who's around when im putting it in there. My view is I want to make it so they'd rather move on to another target, but not so hard they decide to come in the house. I wouldn't be comfortable having it on display for whatever little tealeaf happens to walk past.

Disagree. I think leave it in the car. If they are happy to nick it once they have seen there is physical deterrence they are more serious than your average relay thief - so they have already made the decision to be prepared to find that remote.

Hard one really, I’d be loathe to let scum dictate my approach to cars but only you can know your own apprehension to the matter vs. pleasure you get from the car.

Someone I know had their house broken into about 10-12 years ago for an RS5 but despite an amazing set of cars since it never happened again.

Personally I’d leave it as is and if it gets robbed you can worry about a decision on long term car ownership thereafter.

I think I’m being paranoid but on the second camera I think I hear “is it worth coming back” but not making out what the response is.

Garage isn’t an option as it’s tiny, debating parking the car a few streets away short term but they know the house now.
Personally I wouldn't be bringing the car back anywhere near the house in the short term at least. You know it's a target, they know which house it belongs to should you park it round the corner, it's a bit too risky in my opinion.

Thanks all, as always appreciate your support.

Disklok is now on
Sorted the gates (temporarily so they now shut)
Hasp & Staple with heavy duty padlock fitted

Police have been in touch, footage sent. (Not expecting anything, but hopefully they recognise the vocies).

Short term, I’m going to see what happens. We had an attempt almost five years ago and nothing until today. I’m willing to try a few different bits to try and deter but if it doesn’t stop the car will have to go.

Yeah maybe. You are right, it depends how serious they are!

My sister in law is a copper in the badlands of Birmingham and she always recommended a Disklok - it won't stop the really nasty bds but she thinks they're a good visual deterrent. Hopefully it'll do enough to keep your car on the drive.

We had a scroat down our road recentlt checking out people's cars. He rocked up in a stolen RS4, big parka jacket and balaclarva. He was caught on cameras looking at cars like he was on a forecourt. The RS4 was stolen the night before and the guy had seven previous attempts to take it! Sod that.

Same. I only use my car once a week on average and a couple of times I have gone to the car and realised I didn't lock it the last time I used it.

I had a brand new Subaru Impreza back in the day and I hated the worry I used to have when I had to leave it anywhere.

That was 25 years ago, I can't imagine having the worry of someone breaking into the house and threatening me for the keys added on top.

I’d rather live in a state of perpetual fear than drive a shed for the rest of my life tbh hehe

You need to get it modified. Not just for size on the back (it can be easy to "peel" it off some steering wheels) but also to stop bloody awful design flaw! Small metal plate is all you'll need added to it.

I'm sure most of the serious criminals already know this. But to avoid posting it publicly. The flaw is visible in this pic. If you have one at home, take a VERY close look at it!

Print off a few copies of your ‘still’ from the camera footage and stick them on the inside windows, dash etc.
