Thread update:
At around 4am on Sunday morning, my house was broken into, keys taken and RS6 stolen. Fortunately, I think, the thieves thought that I was home and didn't ransack the rest of the house. However, I was actually camping in a field, out of mobile reception range and didn't get any tracker alerts until Monday. The tracking company, (Global Telemetrics) have been fantastic and had recovered the vehicle within 20 minutes of me calling in. The police have been fairly useless as I haven't heard anything from them to date and have had to chase them if they wanted to do any forensics on the fake number plates used.

The RS6 is now back in my possession and stored securely at my girlfriends house. I believe the damage is cosmetic as they ripped a load of internal panels off trying to find the tracker. I need to get the panels refitted, the key fob re-coded and the car checked over. I'm then going to chop it in for something else. It's way too high profile for where I live.

So, an amazing car that I really enjoyed for the 6 months I had it, but not worth the risk. Unfortunately it's dented my confidence on what to get next. I'm gravitating towards a 2+2 of some flavor around £50K. Any suggestions?

Damn, that's awful, really sorry to hear it.

Good luck sorting out the repair and sale of the RS6.

Probably worth starting a fresh thread in Car Buying for suggestions for a £50k 2+2, hopefully will be a fun search.

Scumbags. I have a friend in Manchester area and the only reason he won’t buy an RS6 is for the grief. If the police were less useless….

Ah man! Feel for you. I had a thread running a few months back as I was getting repeated attempts by scumbags trying to steal my F-Pace SVR.

In the end I sold it as I didn’t want the hassle, although it’s only this last couple of weeks (more than two months since the first break-in attempt) they’ve stopped coming round. On one occasion I was a little foolish and went chasing after them - not sensible!

I’m in the process of applying for planning permission for a garage but will be looking at a 2+2 myself. Current favourite is a Lexus LC500 as they sound epic with the V8 - the equal of an SVR or RS6 - but will also look at Evoras, DB11s and 911s. It will probably come down to insurance prices and real or perceived risk of theft rather than anything else. I’m done with anything that attracts the scrotes; anything that you can imagine being the wet-dream of drug-dealing stbags from Bradford is well and truly off the list.

Edit: Just to add, the police are beyond useless.

Im sorry to hear that OP. Just out of interest, and not meaning to rub it in; what extra security precautions did you take and do you think any of them helped in any way?

Thanks for all your comments. It does make me wonder if car thieves are operating with absolute impunity given how non existent the police response has been. It hasn't filled me with much confidence of them going forward.

Regarding the question of additional security and the one thing that has really impressed me, was how quickly Global Telemetrics got on the case. Had I not been out of mobile signal at the time and able to call the theft in immediately, I do get the feeling that they would have been tracking the car on the move, which 'hopefully' would have attracted more police interest. Without doubt I will be putting another of their trackers in my next car, probably with an isolator switch this time.

Sorry to hear that it was stolen. I did post that mine was stolen and recovered, the same tracking company had trackers on my car. Give them a message as they'll be able to tell you where the car was taken, speeds driven etc if you wanted that information.

I also thought the police were quite a mess, heard mixed messages etc but in the end they caught the thieves so have some hope that the same will happen here.

Gutted to hear it was stolen but pleased you got it back so quickly, a ringing endorsement for that tracking company. It's such a shame you're having to part with what you love, couldn't agree more that it's an issue just not taken as seriously as it should be unfortunately by the Police with enough deterrents to prevent it in the first place.

Does seem to be a pattern with the theft of high value items be it watches or cars, there's just not enough risk vs reward for the thieves it seems.

Liphook in Hampshire is a sleepy medium sized village and quite affluent - the last 6 weeks has had a spate of break ins to cars and businesses, thefts of mopeds and 125's. The thieves are young lads on mopeds - they do not wear helmets - just full face balaclavas. I have reported when I have seen them to the PCSO who is supposed to be assigned to the village and not had any reply - LOADS of people have reported to 101 and we have shared crime numbers etc. The lads have been traced to a neighbouring village but so far we have not seen any action at all and the lads continue to be about very frequently. I can see now how the RS6 theft happens and then the Police do very little.

You do realise it's the criminals really at fault here?

This is one of the main reasons why I've changed my mind about buying an 8V RS3, just not worth the hassle.

I wouldn’t suggest an LC500 if you are worried about thefts

What's the point in buying another £50k high performance car of any make/model it's just going to give you exactly the same problem?
