I think maybe we're all missing something; there's the old saying "dress for the job you want, not the job you have". Maybe the reason that people with BO55 plates are almost never actually a BO55 is that they are merely wearing the plates for the job they want?
I would imagine a far greater % of BO55 number plates ARE owned by people who are their own boss - either sole trader or mega-global-hyper-net.

Always on a Range Rover Sport. Older the better.

Horrific rims are a choice option to supplement the number plate .... preferably chrome or black, and spaced out to protrude past the bodywork

Ha! Saw a blacked out RR with D48 OSS dodgily spaced out earlier this week - immediately thought of this thread!

I wonder at what point the size of your company makes you a boss in the eyes of society? If you are your own boss, but only your boss, are you really a boss? You may call the shots but to quote Slim Thug "I call shots LIKE a boss", not "I call shots because I AM the boss". Even that aspiring young executive was in no doubt about his position as he kept asking "who's the boss, Nigel? Who's the fluffy clucking boss?!", which is clearly not a question the boss would need to ask. Especially not of Nigel.

I wanna be a big boss
I wanna boss the world around
I wanna be the biggest boss that ever bossed the world around
I wanna be a boss.

Surprised no-one has mentioned 666 plates yet. However BO55 plates are usually put on something that some people could confuse for being fancy. Main culprits are clapped out RR that are fully murdered out on 4D plates.

There is a gym supplement shop near me that had a white Bentley Conti parked outside with the plate ‘BRD 80Y’.
I’m assuming it’s a bit of a tragic attempt to read BAD BOY with a cheap plate… unless he’s banned from a lot of aviaries.
My car has “KAZ 666” etched into all the windows, by a previous owner….. They are slowing being removed!

Remarkably quick response for someone claiming they aren't in any way glued to this thread or interested at all in BOSS plates. scratchchinlaugh

You must be quiet serving at Maccy Ds this afternoon. hehe

Maybe there should be an entry level such as min 2 employees or an annual salary bill of £x,000?

You must have really wanted that car. To me those kind of mods invoke visions of the car doing donuts at car meets and the stain of would-be baby kaz's on the seats.

It was promoted by Police forces and they often had days when you could have it done for free. I think there were some insurance discounts.

The windows had a small copy of the number plate etched on next to the kite mark - about same size so that if the car was stolen it was harder to disguise the car identity. In theory if you etched every part of the car it might help some thefts and I actually have a DNA smart water on my cars and bikes that are unique to the car - a Police blue light can detect it and help trace the vehicle back to the owner.

I guess you thought it was like one of those old KENWOOD stickers across the whole window with the number plate.

Utterly butchered plates are often a good indicator of the character driving it.

Stopped one Christmas before last since it had an unreadable plate (Screw used to change C to “O”.) Seemed a professional middle class normal bloke, but was doing about 60 in a 40 (noticeably driving like a bit of a Wally) and blew just under drink drive limit with his and a friends child in the car. What an utter hero.

The ‘chat’ didn’t really go in either. Sure we’ll meet again.

^^ wonder if said miscreant typically had the original unbutchered plates in the boot as a pathetic and vain attempt to avoid prosecution offering to change them over when pulled by Police. rolleyeslaugh

Nah, he was just a bit of an entitled plonker. I would thoroughly love for him to have blown 3mcg higher on the breath test to be able to call his wife and ask her to collect the kids from the police station!

Saw a BO55 plated Audi beached in a ditch yesterday morning on my way to work. Can't say I didn't have a little chortle to myself. Maybe the money that bought the plate may have been better spent on driving lessons or new glasses.

Yes, security etched. It was quite typically 25+ years ago. I have seen lots of cars where the windows don’t match up with the actual reg hehe

To be fair, I didn’t really notice it when I was looking to buy it. It’s not that big a concern.
