They don't need to get over it though. Still plenty of decent 7s about and by all accounts a better car for many still. It's all about choices.

An, 'acoustic statement', that statement meaning, 'I'm a bell end'.

Ironically it's a decent enough looking car, all of the Golf-Rs are, they're generally inoffensive to look at and I'm sure a good drive too but the image and how often I've seen them driven badly puts me right off. I suspect like many a fast car in the past.

I'll probably enjoy seeing one of these in standard form in 20 years time! haha

I think that there is a much wider issue here than which version of Golf R you have. On a whole range of variables cars have got worse over the last few years. Combined with tighter financial times and the uncertainty around the move to electric then a lot of people are keeping their cars longer. I have a 7.5 R wagon without a GPF, without a huge stuck on central screen, without lane assist and in a colour I like from the much wider range they used to offer. Why should I change for an inferior car in my eyes?

Get over what? That they're perfectly happy with what they've got and don't see the need to spunk the cash on a newer car that arguably doesn't suit their needs as much?

I think it's you who needs to get over this.

Spot on.

I'm probably the target demographic for one of these (long history of owning Golfs, looking for a fast car with a good size boot) but the image of the Golf R means I'll never own one.

The blue colour works for me (and my OCD) as the brake callipers are blue and the interior trim accents are blue.

This VW Group E888 engine gets another 'tweak' . Astonishing re-invention , refresh of a gruff, rough piece of metal work. Now 17 years old . Nuff said

The exhaust stuff sounds rather naff but nice bit I’ve never been a fan of the DSG fart.

It’s generally quite inoffensive but I’m still not liking the interior

Been keeping an eye on second hand prices for the mk8 estate but they seem very rare, so prices are still sky high compared to the hatch. Octavia VRS seems much better value

Yeah its a strange one. Most OEMs are blaming the noise regs and the GPFs for the reduction in noise, the pops and bangs are all but gone from Audi and AMG who started it all off with the noisy A45 and RS models. I can only imagine its the total decibel of the system and these are more poooofs than pops

Indeed, truly this generation's 20VT/BAM, another woeful lump of turd.

I think that's true for a lot of people.

My Megane 280 Cup is now 6 years old, I suspect in normal times I would have swapped it at the 4 year point, but then they stopped offering it with a manual, and then stopped making it all together. Similar classes of car, such as this, or the Type R and over 10k more than I paid back in 2018.

The big thing for me is, like lots of people after lockdown, I'm not in an office everyday anymore, and much of my work has been remote, so my need for a daily isn't that great, so there's really no rush to replace it.

I suspect I'll go electric at some point, but I think it's still a few years away.

'the most powerful Golf models of our time' with less power than the 5 year old Leon R Abt. It's about time VW pulled their finger out and gave the Golf 400 bhp.
