I loved this untill the very last sentence "true petrol head". Just like the pro drive car that was a half million pound copy of cars you could pick up for 20k or less for many years ( not a p1 but a wrx sti etc). If it's 6 figures then it's an investment not an enthusiast car.

I miss the EVO Imprezs Focus RS days they were cars people.loved and could afford. I had a wee it was great but this may as well have a ferrari badge on it etc I am never likely to even see one in the flesh.

That aside I think it will be a great bit of kit but if I had the money the Kimora for me

Because of price I won't be a buyer however if you want the look cheap buy the Mr2 kit that is fairly close and with a rallying livery will turn heads .

Weird how people look at this thing with rose tinted glasses…it hardly set the world alight in rallying and no one wanted the road cars in period because they were built so poorly, yet it’s apparently an icon now. Hardly a Stratos is it?

Ford, was quite often pretty hapless when it came to their rally programme. Pulled out officially at the end of 1979 to build and develop a new challenger. And made the 2WD Escort 1700T; which was finally ready when the 4WD cars were proven to be the best. So, that was aborted, and a new car was needed. Hence the late introduction of the RS200 in 1986, for Sweden, and not the season opener, the Monte.....

And we know what happened after that; fatal crashes in Portugal, and Corsica, and GpB banned for 1987.

I've always got genuinely excited whenever I've seen these over the years at Ford shows. It just always seemed so different to so much other stuff. A very cool car I reckon.

It was unfortunate that Group B was cancelled before the Evolution models were ready, it certainly had potential, and was good enough to win the European Rallycross title.

Why has nobody considered a GT70 replica, that was a good looking car.

Fair play to Ford for allowing this to happen.
I’ll take mine in 450bhp format - ideal for the local B- roads

Group B was spectacular, so glad to have seen it. The RS200 was thought one of the very best looking competitors, plus it looked like it would become a big challenger at the sharp end. Such a shame we never got to see it fulfil its potential.
I'd happily snap up one up, old or new-like-this, if I had the means. A 205 T16 would also be on my shopping list. Wonder if Peugeot or any of the others might do the same as Ford is doing with this ?

That is rapid for sure! smokincloud9

It is high revving for a turbo engine as well. Just awesome I reckon. driving

No one actually wanted the Stratos road cars either.... Lancia had a terrible time trying to sell them, because, as road cars, they were so crude. I've done long journeys in one - it's not easy... RS200 is no limo but a lot easier to live with in comparison. S4 was the most civilized.

Escort headlights look lousy. I think the most successful reimaginations/restomods blend old and new very well. Trying to make an old car look modern rarely works well in my opinion whereas improving the original without making it appear very obviously different can look great. Small details but the devil's in the detail so if its not cohesive it jars a bit

The RS200 remains one of my all time favourite cars. Such an iconic thing and as a young kid growing up, my matchbox replica was one of my most prized possessions.

I got my youngest a hot wheels equivalent the other day but it’s taking up residence in my office (for now!).

I remember seeing one for sale in Harrogate Horseless Carriages back in the day and was utterly amazed.

Great cars. IIRC they used them in Rallycross?

Prob my favourite ever car from the Group B days, it just looked so right.

Wasn't the Evo recognised as the fastest accelerating car at one point?

I'm sure some will be bought as investments, but it's easy to forget just how rich some people are. There's people out there who could afford to buy one of these, drive it as much as they fancy and just not care if it loses nine tenths of its value in the process. It probably helps that such people have many, many other cars to choose from so no individual one of them still necessarily sees many miles.

For me though, a mere mortal, this is so utterly inaccessible that it might as well be a landspeeder from Star Wars.

Spent a few hours testing a works version on the Ford Motorsport track at Boreham back in the day. An amazing car. Quick yes, but what really impressed was the ride / pliancy over the rough stuff.

PS I was a passenger. My brother-in-law was driving. And, at the end of the session, he left the airfield and drove it home to Somerset. You should have seen the look on the faces of people we passed...

Only 148 x RS200 were assembled, so if they make 52 more cars to actually make the name "RS200" accurate, then maybe their value will go actually go up! (not sure which is the sarcastic emoji to put here so don't shoot me down in flames please)
