Garage wrecked my Range Rover engine… please help

Lots of questions, of course.
But I do wonder, after the stories we have heard on here over time about Range Rovers, is why anybody takes the chance of car breakdown roulette with a JLR product, almost anything from Jaguar or Land Rover, Range Rover.
Buy a nice Lexus instead. You know it makes sense.
I think a certain kind of person can only be seen in a RangeRover. An acquaintance is an old money wealthy guy who runs a small farm as basically a hobby - he’s had loads of trouble with several models but looks at me as if I’m mad when I wonder why he keeps buying them. And our CEO’s wife, who doesn’t work but plays at being a property developer with her husbands money - they’ve (our boss has to sort out the problems) particularly had problems with the dealer they use being useless. But I do wonder, after the stories we have heard on here over time about Range Rovers, is why anybody takes the chance of car breakdown roulette with a JLR product, almost anything from Jaguar or Land Rover, Range Rover.

I keep reading stories like this, where people buy hugely expensive when new older cars, then get landed with a colossal bill when, I presume, they were hoping for Hyundai I10 running costs.
This one, and the one where the bloke bought an Aston Martin for about £20K, then more or less immediately had a £12K bill as the engine borked. I'm sure there are plenty of others too.
I did say to my wife we'd get an old-ish Aston when we retire as a bit of fun, but stories like that have put me off I'm honest.

I believe there was a post on here about someone buying a £30-40k R8 and then it needing a £30k gearbox not long after. Reading OPs previous threads has provided a nice little chuckle this morning. What an absolute mentalist.
Despite the fact that the OP initiated this direction of travel, I don't think it's going to help any perception that this forum is full of misogynists and wife-beaters to continue with mentalists/time of the month/origins of her username/etc.GT9 said:

Being a bit of a connoisseur of a good put-down, I don't think this post from the carpet/ostrich thread received the credit it deserved
You did balls up as you glued in a carpet you didn't want that didn't fit by your own admission, also asking me if i've ever made a mistake implies you know you have made a mistake...so you know what, you're just getting angry because we've all told you what you know yourself, you've made an error of judgement and no, nobody else will pay for it.
I'm fairly sure when you whizz by in in Bonnie I won't give two hoots about your cheapo home build Cobra replica registered as a 1970 Rover. Having spent a lot of time around the real things as a youngster it'll probably offend my eyes, like the rear bumper mounted off centre for instance.
I christened it Bonnie because given your admitted expertise with the carpet I guess every now and again it'll fall apart .........

oh look at you - so witty amongst all your little macho friends here.
I'll try not to turn your head as I whizz by in our stunning Dax Cobra... you'll find it hard not to notice as I doubt you will ever have seen one quite as impressive as ours... and built all by our own stupid hands!!!! Oh how we will laugh at your surprised little face
We didn't "balls up" fitting the carpet (so eloquently put Sir!)... the carpet was the wrong shape.
Obviously you have never made a mistake in your entire life and always expect and receive perfect goods from perfect retailers and have never received a shoddy product or shoddy service.
We made the mistake of fitting the kit from the outset and the carpet installer threw the old kit away...
I wont make the mistake of ever coming here again for legitimate polite advice.. as clearly its the wrong place to come.

Op had a similar flounce when they last posted 7 years ago. I don't know they don't just start their posts with "please only tell me what I want to hear".
Here if anyone’s interested. It’s quite funnyhttps://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

My comment is due to their frankly unhinged behaviour, consistent across several of their own threads. It, quite obviously, has absolutely nothing to do with their gender.
Misogyny and wife-beating. Really?![rolleyes](/inc/images/rolleyes.gif)
The other comments I was referring to were made by other posters.Misogyny and wife-beating. Really?

You then brought mentalist to the thread.
There are explicit posting rules about making reference to other people's mental health, I think you should read them.
I'm not looking for an argument, but at the same time, I felt the need to say something to hopefully changing the direction it feels we are heading in.

I think you're taking an off-hand comment far too seriously. I'm familiar with the rules, thank you - on re-reading to see if there was something I've missed, I still don't see what the fuss is about. That said offence is not what was intended so I've edited my post and removed that comment, and now we can move on. You then brought mentalist to the thread.

Judging by the OPs ability to dish out an insult over the years, they can look after themselves. You then brought mentalist to the thread.

Doesn't matter anyway. They're gone, yet again they didn't get the answer they wanted - which was a way to blame somebody else for their expensive mistake.

This has to be the most extreme example of thread drift ever on PH ![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)
In fairness, given that the original thread hadn't as much drifted as crashed backwards into the greenery, I see it as an improvement! ![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)

Thanks georgeyboy for bringing the earlier thread to our attention and props to sunbeam alpine for the wonderful turn of phrase.
