Sorry, but that design just looks a total and utter dogs breakfast - regardless of whether it were to be an EV or a ICE car - anyone with the merest scintilla of aesthetic appreciation would surely see that?

À chacun son goût. As an exercise in grafting Lotus’s current styling cues onto a massive, spacious, aerodynamic blob, it’s about what I’d expect. More successful than putting a 911 snout on a Chelsea tractor, but that never seemed to do that any harm. If the business plan is to sell massive electric SUVs and saloons at a high price while establishing a recognisable design language, this is what we get.

I think it looks utterly fantastic............I just don't get all the kia comments....On what planet does this look like a kia?.
I am 100% deadly serious, If I had never seen an Emeya before and somebody presented me with this exact image and said it was a 2nd gen Stinger I would absolutely believe them.

I'm not saying it looks like a stinger but it does look like something modern Kia could produce. Kia are actually very good at making large cars that wear their size well. Here is an image of an EV6 which has been shrunk vertically by 15%. To my eyes it's no worse than the lotus.

I dont get the derision for Kia, the Stinger is a looker and as a brand they have come on leaps and bounds, same with Hyundai, in some cases, maybe not the Ioniq 6.

Think this looks alright, side like the sides in particular.
yes its a looker in the same way as susanne boyle.

...if the chosen design language is 'gibberish' and the target market is gauche then Geely has a surefire winner on its hands hehe

£130,000 for a large, heavy Lotus.

I'll pass.

Sorry, apart from the colour I see no resemblance, but irrespective, the Kia isn't a bad looking car...If you take the Lotus on face value, it just looks great.....I could easily pull a photo of a yellow Ferrari and say it looks like this:

They're taking cues from the Evija and Emira, the styling of the Evora is something they would like to brush under the carpet.

They should really brush the whole styling concept under the carpet, roll it up, stick it in the bin and kill it with fire (remove the battery first) - it's hideous beyond comprehension hehe

So the styling is crap.

It's a bit st to drive.

It's fecking expensive.

And it's a dull EV.

Maybe it will sell in foreign markets but I wouldn't miss Lotus if it disappeared.

If I’m not mistaken the lease deals on the Eletre are quite good at the moment and the same will surely apply to this car. So not sure it’s actually that expensive. If you can get a decent deal, I’m sure it changes everything. I think it’s a nice looking car personally and can do well at the right price. But at a premium over the Taycan, not a hope. Even if I think the Emeya looks much better.

I think they should have pitched the price to undercut the Taycan range by at least 10%. Obviously I haven’t driven the Lotus but have done quite a few miles in a Taycan and the Lotus has quite a high bar to reach and apparently the new Taycan is a big improvement.

I hope Geely has managed to develop a Lotus that does not have the look and feel of a glorified kit car.

Maybe for the R, I'm not sure you can say the same about the S.

I see what you're saying, DA, but the target market won't give a crap, especially in emerging markets. Much will be made of F1 history, luxury and impressing the neighbours.

I imagine that most buyers around the world will never have seen our heard of the Eclat, Excel, nor the 90s Elan. A sizable chunk will never have heard of the Esprit, nor the Elise.

Not saying you're wrong, DA, just that the people who buy these won't care. Rightly or wrongly, Chinese industry has a knack for purchasing European brands and repositioning them for a global market. At the other end of the market, look at the global success that MG is now seeing.
Agree completely.

The reports are that the interior quality is outstanding.

This is NOT Lotus

Looks huge in the pictures and I've seen the Eletre in the flesh which is massive, would love to park my Exige 420 FE next to it for comparison (2.5 Tonnes WTF!!)

How many people and how much shopping can you carry in you Exige. How about that trip to Travis Perkins or B&Q for a few bags of gravel, cement etc etc.

The Exige is a fun toy car nothing more. I know I owned one.

The production of these sort of cars almost bankrupted Lotus several times.

How can you not understand the niche appeal of these stripped out basic machines is simply not viable. Are you going to bung a few million into Lotus to carry on with small scale output with sales that rarely break even?

Shock - a car can exist for a different purpose, other than track use idea
You wouldn’t daily an Exige, just like you’re not buying this for out right track performance.

Speak to Porsche fans from 2003/4 - they were the same when the Cayenne launched.
Now Porsche have the funds to produce many GT and RS models smile
