Discussion
Hi S7uey
Thanks for getting in touch and I'm sorry for any confusion!
We are in the process of arranging extended warranty with a new supplier and we're hoping to have this available soon - it does unfortunately mean we can't quote at the moment however if you would like me to contact you once it's available please feel free to pop me an email (katie@ala.co.uk) with your details.
Thanks,
Katie

Hi bungle
Thanks for your message and I'm sorry about that, I think that customer may have emailed directly after the initial question but it'd be good to clarify the position for you and other PHers![thumbup](/inc/images/thumbup.gif)
The GAP insurance would not be invalidated if you decided to modify your car in the future - as long as you notify your motor insurer about any modifications you make to the car, the GAP insurance will still pay out in the event of a total loss, we just don't cover the cost of the modifications themselves.
The policy wording doesn't specifically refer to modifications as we're covering the original purchase of the vehicle, and so by implication it wouldn't cover any aftermarket modifications to the car. Although it is unlikely to happen, one thing to mention is that certain modifications can have a detrimental effect on the insurer's market value of the car at the time of a total loss. If this were to happen the GAP insurance cannot cover any reduction in the insurer's settlement as a result of the modifications.
I hope this helps and if you do have any other questions at all, please let me know.
Thanks,
Katie

Hi Stu
Thank you for getting in touch.
The terms of the cover are very similar to what we offered previously - there is of course the added bonus of a recognisable, trusted brand in the form of the RAC![thumbup](/inc/images/thumbup.gif)
Within all of the policies we offer, there is no policy excess, no waiting period or pre inspection and the claim limit on the policy is always the market value of the vehicle.
The prices are extremely competitive as well!![woohoo](/inc/images/woohoo.gif)
For yourself and anyone that would like any more information you can have a look at the website - https://www.ala.co.uk/warranty/ (which provides copies of policy documents) and if you have any questions at all please let me know.
Thanks,
Katie

Hi aea730
Thanks for getting in touch.
It's always tricky for us to say whether our GAP insurance is exactly the same as the dealers as each one may use a different supplier, and we don't get to see their terms. However more often than not our policy is the same (and sometimes better!) they usually just charge much higher premiums!
One thing to mention is that they do often only offer one type of policy; with ours you can have a choice of cover and policy term etc so you're not just getting a one-size-fits-all policy. You can also view our policy documents online before purchasing to check through T&Cs, whereas the dealers don't normally provide you with this in advance.
In terms of taking out the GAP insurance, once you have a confirmed delivery date you can arrange the policy at that point to start on that date.
I hope this helps - if you have any other questions at all please let me know. You're welcome to contact me directly by email if you prefer katie@ala.co.uk

Katie

Hi hotcfdog
Thanks for your message!
If your car has been bought using a personal loan, and so isn't attached to the vehicle, we simply treat this as you owning the car outright.
This means that if you purchase the Back to Invoice + we would pay the difference between your insurer's payout and the cash price of the car i.e. £20,000. You can then choose to pay off the remaining balance on the loan, or continue to pay the loan and use the settlements from the insurer and the GAP to buy a new car outright.
With the Vehicle Replacement + policy, it doesn't cover the cost of a brand new car but rather one matching the one you originally purchased i.e. same make, model, specification, age and mileage as the one you've just purchased.
With this the GAP insurance settlement would be paid directly to a garage for the replacement car and you would use the insurer's settlement to pay the balance.
I hope this information is useful and if you have any other questions please let me know.
Thanks,
Katie

Hi Lawrence
Thanks for your message and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
We do have two different providers for our cover - one of them does exclude any modifications completely, however the other does not have these restrictions, however they don't cover the cost of the modifications.
If you would like me to provide you with a quotation on this basis, please feel free to pop an email to me katie@ala.co.uk with the details and I'll be happy to help.
Thanks,
Katie

Hi bungle
Thanks for getting in touch.
Sorry for the confusion! The newer of the two underwriters we currently use has only been working with us since September 2019 and so wouldn't impact any policy that you already have with us.
The other underwriter is one we have been using for a number of years and so the answer for them would stay the same.
Hope that helps, happy to clarify![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
Thanks,
Katie

Hi Zipee
(We just need a George today, and then we've got the Rainbow set!)![tumbleweed](/inc/images/tumbleweed.gif)
Our policies are transferrable - we do have to cancel the old policy and set up a new one but this just means the new policy is appropriate for the new car, rather than basing it on the original one (which could be quite different!) We daily pro rata the original premium you paid, use that as a credit against the cost of the new policy, and there might be a balance to pay.
If you'd like to run through this for your policy, or have any questions, please feel free to drop me an email with your policy details and the new car information![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Thanks,
Katie

Hi Olas
Thanks for your message.
That's no problem - its easier to ask![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Unfortunately we don't cover classics; the car has to be less than 10 years old to qualify for our policies
the same applies for our Agreed Value policy as this is slightly different to Agreed Value car insurance.
On a positive note, for cars that are eligible for cover, our policies do cover in Europe as long as your normal motor insurer covers you abroad as they would in the UK.
Thanks again and if you have any other questions please let me know.
Katie

Hi Cimaguy
Thanks for the message - hope you don't mind me jumping in with some information![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
In the event of a claim, if you take the car to a Porsche garage then they will use Porsche parts when repairing the car, rather than a factored part. The only thing to mention is that, at the moment, the maximum labour rate on our warranties is £60.00 plus VAT - there's no excess to pay if you're claiming on the policy but if Porsche charge a higher labour rate (which is unfortunately quite likely) you would need to cover those additional costs.
I hope this helps and if you have any other questions please reply or pop me an email to katie@ala.co.uk.
Thanks,
Katie

Hi Stu
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
That's great, thank you for buying the policy from us
The policy can be transferred to the new owner if you sell the car privately as long as they are eligible for the cover and you let us know within 14 days of the transfer of ownership - there is a small fee of £30.00 to do this.
I hope that helps and if you have any other questions please let me know!
Thanks,
Katie

Hi LorryJumper
Thanks for getting in touch.
I'm not too sure about this one as we don't offer standard motor insurance. The best thing i can suggest is to speak to the insurers involved and they should be able to give you the right information![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
Sorry I couldn't be more help and hope you get it sorted.
Thanks,
Katie

Hope some PHers can give you some guidance on this berni29, with us not offering car insurance I'm not really certain of the answer to this. It would be worth checking with the insurer in question if you're not sure, just to avoid invalidating any cover - or paying more than you need to if it affects premium!
It's only an educated guess so please don't hold me to this but if you've had a British passport and been classed as a British citizen while you've been away you'd think the answer would be still "from birth"![confused](/inc/images/confused.gif)
Hope you get the answer soon either way![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
Thanks,

Hi SheffieldLX
Thank you for getting in touch.
I'm sorry about that - we will be able to get this sorted for you and apply the correct discount, we would just need you to give us a call so that we can do that over the phone. Some of the non-GAP policies are capped at 5% but for PH GAP insurance customers we can actually take off 12%![biggrin](/inc/images/biggrin.gif)
The office number is 01653 916280 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm.
Thanks,
Katie
