Found this today at the local village hall! I think its a kit car on an old plate, but it still looked lovely:

Am I correct that all the GT40s you see out and about are likley kits, as a real one would be in a collection and worth over $1m?

I was at Goodwood MM in April and was chatting to a guy who was running a genuine 1960s GT40. I asked him this an he said that a few of the cars there were in fact recreations, and that the classic racing was slightly spoiled by the fact that the recreations were faster.

Yes he’s right. When the Goodwood Revival began you had to have not only an original car, but also one that raced at Goodwood in period. Sadly that policy seems to have died out long ago. Not only do you now have replicas of those valuable cars, you also have lesser cars tuned up out of all recognition in comparison to those that were racing in period.

The Esprit was tidy, it’s had a bit of paint but the interior is original and has held up remarkably well.
