As for the GRY, I should love this having come from a history of Evo’s and Impreza’s back in the glory days, but I just don’t. Not a fan of the looks but everything else seems ok, so I can’t fully understand my negativity

My hurdle has always been the engine in fairness with them. Although all the owners say that it is a brilliant engine though, so I need to try one at some stage for definite. Plus when I saw one sliding sideways in real life, it really helped to change my perception of them for sure as well.

I don't think the price actually matters. It could be 70 grand and the people who really want one of these, will pay it.
I say good on you Toyota, for making them.
Personally I think they are fugly as hell, shatty interior, not practical at all, and overpriced at 40 grand.
But we all like different things......

The Fk8 to FL5 went from 316 to 326 bhp, and 295 to 310 Lb/ft, but its heavier so near enough identical performance - but went from 36K to 49K which raised a few eyebrows (ok more than a few) but vs everything else above and below it is about right sadly. It's a fair point it only makes sense if you have 3/4 other cars though to be honest it is not a bargain by anyone's definition.

I did a quick survey on the GRY group I am in on FB. Only 23% had a GRY as their only car. It is one of my 3 and I have bikes as well. GRY owners generally are not struggling for a couple of bob to rub together and also they either are inverted snobs (like that it is called a Yaris even though it is 99% a bespoke high performance coupe) or are not concerned about the brand. Given the relatively limited planned supply of Gen 2's of high 100's/very low 1000's) a year (educated guess, not a fact) and that there is an auto available (which has generated a suprising (to me) high level of interest) now where Gen 1 didn't have one. I think it is sure they will sell all they want to. (There are several Mk1 GRY owners who are seriously considering buying a Mk2 auto to go with their Mk1 as well as their other cars). Toyota knows what it is doing
