Seriously Overpriced Cars

Aren't the V6 petrol ones rare as most sold were diesels?
I dont think so, both petrol and diesel were popular. Saloons were relatively rare though, most were hatchbacks. You can still get an ST220 fairly cheaply, though a very good condition one in blue will always command a premium.
I think the price is reaching a bit, but they will probably get there at some point. The earlier ST200 is starting to appreciate pretty well now.

20 year old Mondeo for £20k anyone?
These weren't even desirable when they were new.

Is that the one that's been for sale for a couple of years? How long do dealers persist before they see the light? These weren't even desirable when they were new.

More likely £10k...
My friend purchased this example 4 years ago from KGF for around £6k...
https://www.kgfclassiccars.co.uk/vehicles/2461/
...and sold it a couple of years ago for a fair bit more privately, with ease.
The one for sale currently is lower mileage and prices have gone up since then.
Desirable? To some people, sure. Remember the Clarkson video of the ST220, Vectra VXR, Mazda 6 MPS? These were the last of the performance rep mobiles.

By 2001 you could buy a BMW 330i that was also probably a performance rep mobile (subject to budget), just slightly quicker!
As much as I loved my Fast Fords in the 80s I lost interest when they all became FWD scrabble-wagons. So my quicker BMW 330i shed seems like a bargain.

330i was not really a rival when new as it was a fair bit more expensive. Also not really that much quicker. Virtually same weight/hp, but like you say RWD which helps on the off.
Like the 330i E46, the difference in price between the best and worst is massive. ST220 can be picked up for £2000, but people are willing to spend much more on the right car.
Same goes for the E46. I bet a mint 20k-30k mile E46 manual 330i M Sport would fetch £8-10k easily.

Is this overpriced...? Does the current (or any) owner enhance or detract from the value?

Automatic low spec 2.7 987 Boxster, £35k!!!
I just sold my much nicer manual 3.2S for peanuts, no one wants them, especially for £35k - take £30k off and it might shift.
The ad was listed 23/08/23 - Summer has come around again, second chance perhaps?

My 330i is a 125K mile 2005 E90 with 258bhp that performs brilliantly, even though it became a Cat N last year. But it only owes me Shed money despite having similar performance to a Sierra Cosworth.

Not wanting to make a massive dicussion over it but...buying something you really want, and to enjoy but not using it because of not wanting to 'put on miles' or concern about depreciation is kind of...sad.
I agree with the general sentiment but not when we're talking about hobby cars for want of a better word. For some people that hobby car might be a mixture of something they like driving and a hopeful investment. Whilst there's always someone who will use an Integrale as a daily, most wouldn't want to and would prefer to enjoy it on high days and holidays. It is possible to get a lot of pleasure from ownership that doesn't include much driving but I understand that for some that's not something they get. Fortunately cars don't know we leave them locked away for weeks on end.thegrouch said:
