The sporty ones go for silly money. The cooking spec ones only 3 figures at this kind of age. My 05 pre-spaceship is a cooking spec 1.6 vteckickedinyo but even with only 65k on it I doubt it'll do a grand.
Anarki's is also a pre-spaceship mk7 like mine, but his is a coal burner so no vtec anyway lol.

Although the civic has just passed its MOT, I'm just not keen on it anymore, I can't be arsed spending money on finding the source of the knocking/clunking noise coming from it.
As soon as I drove away I knew I had made a mistake. I tried for two months to gel with it but hated it.
1)knocking suspension that was impossible to fix no matter how many parts I replaced.
2)rock hard suspension making the knocking feel even worse
3)the worst turning circle by far of any car I have owned.
4}rust, looking underneath it made my previous renault look brand new.
5)sticking brake callipers despite a receipt from Honda for new ones three years earlier.
6)boot leaks
7)felt gutless for a 2 litre, drank fuel when you put your foot down.
I just didn't like it at all, the hard, knocking suspension made it fell like an old banger.
I sold it on eBay and went back to my previous megane which felt like luxury in comparison.

Serial Renault shed owner here, a few years ago I decided I was bored of my Megane and bought a MK7 Civic pre spaceship 2.0 S on eBay.

Point 3 makes me smile, as for whatever reason, I cannot park our Mark 8 Civic for toffee - always takes me an attempt or 3. As soon as I drove away I knew I had made a mistake. I tried for two months to gel with it but hated it.

No issues with our E8x 1 Series, but getting in the Civic after driving that and being asked to park in a supermarket car park is always...challenging...

Not joy: coming home from work, the spanner fault light comes on in the Astra and fan on full. Code scan says thermostat heater (common fault on these).
Joy: decided to have a go fixing myself - new thermostat picked up in the morning, replaced in about an hour (not bad for someone who isn't a regular spanner-er), fault cleared!
What I have found with these Astra Js is that the engine bay is surprisingly spacious (at least with the petrols), did an oil change as well at the weekend which was a doddle![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

After some research, the idea of the Mondeo I was keen on, to replace my shedvic, is out now of question. Very glad I spent some time on researching things - it has the 1.6T Ecoboost engine.
I thought it was only the 1.0 Ecoboosts of that vintage that suffered from cooling issues. Turns out the 1.6T does/did as well, although they don't have a wet belt which marginally elevates it above the 1.0 variant, but still not what you want when shedding.
So I've soldered on in my search for the shedvic replacement, and without giving the game away, what are peoples thoughts on the VAG EA888 engine... ?

I would only be looking at a 2.0 petrol N/A Mondeo Mk4's, think they were the old duratec engines - pretty reliable lumps, well compared to the newer stuff anyway, plenty of these in shed budget.I thought it was only the 1.0 Ecoboosts of that vintage that suffered from cooling issues. The 2.0T petrol from the Focus ST is reliable. You can find the detuned version in some of the Mondys like the Titty X but it is quite rare vs the thousands of coal burners. It's called the EcoBoost Sport 2.0 with 200hp and was around from approx 2010 in amongst the various Zetec 2.0s, some of which are also badged Sport just to confuse you. You'll have the run the registrations through the online checkers to find out if it's the turbo one if not mentioned. Unfortunately I don't think they did one in manual flavour so if you fancy one you'll be stuck with the PowerShift box which doesn't have reputation for reliability.

My Focus ST had an engine at 40k... and was playing up again at 80k - had an easy life, too...Hopefully though a detuned variant would fare better.

I really like these, but can't get over the nearly £400 a year to tax it! Real shame as it would make a great shed! This shape...
