Was out on my walk this morning and saw a friend who works in and around F1.

They are off to this on Tuesday and think it will be an absolute car crash. Each team gets 7 minutes to present their drivers and race livery, each with their own compere. None of the people they know in the business (TPs, drivers, PR) want anything to do with it.

Music by Machine Gun Kelly (him of the awkward Brundle interview in Brazil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN-GlGGSgx8) and Take That (or the three of them who are left. Oh dear.

It will be streamed live on F1's YouTube feed to share the carnage.

Live on Sky as well
Will there be any moving cars....
It sounds a disaster and forced onto the teams

This is the bit I'm confused about too! A bunch of TP's and drivers butt-kissing their new sponsors isn't a live event worth paying to witness, it just isn't...

The promotion of the event mentions that it will be exciting and a spectacle etc, but doesn't actually make any commitment as to what will be on display. If we had LH and MV racing around a micro circuit in the O2 that would be interesting, for example - but if anything like that was planned you'd think they would mention it!

Part of me thinks there must be a surprise, there has to be more than what we know - because all we know is that all ten teams are doing their pointless and dull livery reveals and PR stchat consecutively in one place, rather than individually as in previous years. That alone is not an event! There has to be more, probably... Or not rofl

Just to add, I do normally watch the livery reveals and pre season testing etc. But I'm normally doing something else such as decorating and barely tuned in, it's just background noise on a topic I quite like but isn't important enough to be the focus of my attention. That's why I can't connect livery reveals with a paid event or supposed 'spectacle'. A GP is a spectacle, a livery reveal is not.

I'd rather st in my hands and clap than watch the sponsor reveal nonsense. What an embarrassment.

McLaren have their car launch at MTC in the morning so they’ve got a logistics headache to move everyone to the O2.

My understanding is that F1 75 Live is a livery launch only. There won’t necessarily be real cars.

I think it is equivalent to the Royal Its A Knockout event…

Perhaps just lego F1 models with new livery, every car is out in Lego (speed champions?) on 1st march

Fair play to them if they earn from, it I applaud them, people dont care they will also spend fortunes on tickets for very little, if they get to meet drivers etc it might be worth for for fans and kids etc, that might be worth the time.

I went to the race of champions at Wembley, which was excellent, but much less room at the o2...

The mario kart Devs must have watched this stuff biggrin

I hope there is something along these lines for the punters! It seems so obvious that if you have an arena and all the F1 drivers you put on a friendly comedy race!! Why would you not do that!?

Yes, just about the only reason for the general public to go to what’s clearly an event for the sponsors and by the sponsors, is if there’s a proper meet and greet available with the drivers for the younger fans.

Yep livery only, the McLaren launch in the morning is likely the actual car but not the actual livery.

I was listening to a podcast yesterday about this event, even they weren't really sure about it and the confusion over what can be shown prior to the event and what can't.

It'll be billed as a success, strangely it'll probably never happen again!

It'll happen again but it'll be in the US or ME where the money is.

Well quite. If you’re going to do a big party for the sponsors in February, then do it in Dubai or Miami or Singapore, where the sponsors would enjoy being in February!

London would make sense if they were actually showing off the new cars, but at best you’re going to see old cars with new paint, and most are likely to be generic non-running show cars that are designed to photograph well.

I wouldn't be so sure.

In the UK, it's a couple of hours out of the team's day. A day or so for the non UK based teams.

Doing it in the US or ME would be quite a logistical undertaking just a few weeks before the season starts.

Perhaps other European cities may host but I'd imagine a fair bit of push back from the teams for anywhere else.

Feels a very long way from the 1990s, when some of the car launches were literally somebody opening a garage door and saying, "there it is".

Yeah it's all been a bit of a mess meaning we've had a million types of launch. New cars, with one off liveries. Likely to be some old cars with new liveries at this event and then the teams doing all of it in one at their own events in a week.

Anything for a few quid I guess.
